Icloud lock :/

So basically, My grand dad gave me his old iphone 5s a year or so ago although back at that time i was an android scrub and didnt think that much of apple. recently ive been starting to use it more and more often as my daily driver (instead of the S5 mini because that thing is slow af) although theres one slight issue, his icloud is locked onto it and my grand dad  passed in january. seeing as none of us know the password nor any of his details im looking for ways to remove the Locked icloud email on there without contacting apple nor jailbreak. Any suggestions, its running ios11.4.1 and i do have itunes on my pc (no brainer anyways lol)

You need that password since you don't have it there is nothing you can do but use it as a fancy paperweight.

On topic:if you dont know the password and want it unlocked legitimately, you're basically restricted to contacting Apple (more likely, your grandfather will need to contact them) and see if it's something they can unlock for oyu if you need access to iCloud

Not possible as the grandfather as passed away.

Apple will happily unlock it if you can find some proof it was his. Purchase documents are the most potent, but they will probably be quite understanding if the last name on the device is the same as yours.

No, iOS devices require you to log out of the old account before resetting or it will lock you out entirely. It is like Android FRP but not bypassable.

It shouldn't matter if he gets locked out entirely, it's the account of a deceased person and he only wants to use the phone not the account.

Only Apple can remove the iCloud unlock.

 

A quick google search seems to indicate you will need to know the Apple ID of your grandfather and a death certificate in order for them to do it.

Apple doesn't think like that, I have asked multiple times at every link in the chain of command I have talked to (which goes fairly high). Only Apple can remove the iCloud lock and unless you have undeniable proof that you have rightful ownership of the phone then you're SOL. Bright side being that it's an iPhone 5s and parts are cheap. Buy a non-ICL phone with a smashed screen and/or back and swap parts! iPhone 7 and earlier are quite easy to work on.

I've been using Android since the HTC G1 was released. I gave the iP4S a try and liked it. But then it got stolen so I went back to Android.

And unlike Apple, android FRP has bypass methods.

Bring a death certificate and the phone with you to an Apple Store. That's the only way to get apple to unlock it

So when you say locked out entirely you mean from the phone as well as the icloud account it's currently signed onto?    I don't understand why you can't just sign in with a new account. 

 

Having said all that, it should be pretty easy to take the death certificate into apple and have them unlock the account or wipe it or whatever.

I was always wondering how can I "find my phone" using iCloud when I need the phone to login to iCloud in the first place coz I'm using 2FA. Hm...

Having said all that, it should be pretty easy to take the death certificate into apple and have them unlock the account or wipe it or whatever.

To reset the phone you must disable Find my iPhone by logging out of the account tied to the device

 

If you force it to reset via DFU or Recovery mode, then you will be greeted with an activation lock screen that prompts for the Apple ID username and password previously used on the device. Apple leaves no concessions for the user to bypass this anymore.

Only way around that without getting Apple to do it is to replace the logic board itself.

Yee, you have to make sure the donor phone itself isn't iCloud locked too though, otherwise it's all pointless.
