So let me get this straight...

An i5 4670K is really all you need for gaming because most games don't take advantage of HT? However, the i7 4770K will play games like the 4670K just fine but has HT?

It's not entirely up to the games. An i7-4770K will actually outperform the i5 in most games. The cost differential is such however that it isn't worth getting the i7 for a pure gaming rig.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
