Maximum laptop hard drive capacity?

I’m getting an msi laptop that only comes with an ssd but can fit a hard drive in it, I was wondering if there’s a maximum capacity that hard drive could be, the only info I could find said 2tb but the articles were from 2013 and 2011.

Pretty sure the limit is still 2TB, because I doubt you'd have (read: you don't have) a spot which is able to take a 15mm drive. Only way you'd be able to get more than 2TB is to buy an SSD which would be offensively expensive.

Last time I looked at 2.5" HDs I could only find up to 2TB models on offer. I think 3TB models exist, but they tend to be found in external solutions only and I'm guessing they may be thicker so might not fit in a regular laptop. If you do get a drive, do check the thickness supported by the laptop and whatever drive you might be getting.

No, there isn't. As long as the drive physically fits in there, just slap as much capacity as you like.

You can get 4TB SSD's otherwise the largest would likely be 2TB, be careful when buying a 2.5" that the thickness is right for your laptop as they wont usually have enough space for a 15mm drive (if it does I think Seagate makes 5TB drives).

Thx, that’s what I had thought since the Seagate 4tb 2.5in drive is only $100 on amazon rn

I can 99.7% guarantee it won't fit in your laptop.

For what reason? Isn’t it made for laptops?

Just had a look, it is 15mm thick. That is VERY thick. As I said earlier, check how thick a drive your system can take.

Yeah, I figured that out now, I’ve been looking for about 30-40 min now and haven’t been able to find what size it will fit, it’s an MSI gv62 8rd-275 if anyone could help with that, that would be really good :)
