Gravity, people.

Hey guys, just wanted to share something I've been thinking about a ton lately.

GRAVITY.

Holy CRAP, this movie was amazing. One of the best things was that it stood on its own; we didn't need Sandra Bullock to explain plot points to us. The cinematography and visual effects are the best the world has ever seen. Period. At times, her FACE WAS CGI, AND IT LOOKED NO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. I was literally speechless walking out of the theater; and for once, 3D was more than just a rock flying towards you; it made you feel like you were up there with her. The story is a bit basic, but it does it's job without trying to be something it isn't. This is Alfonso Cuarón's love letter to anyone who loves space (which I really don't to begin with), or thrillers, without being jump-scary. Is the Pacific Rim of space; there to be exciting and fresh, not so much sophisticated and wordy. The soundtrack, I've found, is very motivating while writing essays :P, and also top-notch.

Do yourself a favor, and watch this film. If you already have, get it on glorious Blu-Ray and re-live the best 90 minutes of your life.

I heard it was bad and unrealistic.

i was expecting a sophisticated discussion or something interesting related to gravity only to find some movie rambling, much to my disappointment.

Have at it! Doesn't need to be movie-related, but I really think people need to see this movie; it's spectacular. I did ramble a bit, though :P

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Who said that? Most realistic space movie ever, even real astronauts said there were only one or two tiny details that were stretched, and at that they're not into the realm of fiction.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson did...

My Physics teacher said he wasn't too impressed with the realism.. It's still probably better than Fast and Furious logic at least though.

Honestly it's one of those films that is not worth watching unless it's in the cinema. It's all about the big screen and the beefy sound system.

I'd imagine it's boring as hell if you watch it on a 42" screen with build in speakers.

Also some things just weren't... right. They just didn't make sense.

Don't get me wrong, I liked it, I voted "good". but it didn't have the WOW factor a movie like this should've imo.

I've heard good things about it however based on the trailer it seems incredibly thin. I'm not planning on spending time on it any time soon.

Great way to describe the whole movie. Honestly there wasn't enough variation. Especially with the sound design, they looped the same "style" over and over again.

He points out that this is the first movie in a long time that's really trying to simulate true space scenarios. It's getting different criticism than the space shot in The Avengers would; and it's a compliment that it's so close to real life that it's getting nit-picks about physical details.

Odd poll answers...

Can we get some quantitative differences between 'meh', 'ok', and 'neutral'?

I haven't seen it yet...and probably won't.

Meh- nope, it sucked. Didn't do it for me.

Ok- it didn't offend me, but it was not that good.

Neutral- it wasn't bad, it wasn't good; it was worth the ticket price, but that's not saying much.

so much CG ?

ofcourse its CG do yo think hollywood can afford shooting is space  :P

Yeah, to make it real it took a TON- but it payed off without looking cheesy. And yeah, the panting can get a little awkward, but it's all in the name of true-to-life scenarios.

Anything is. There were some tiny things, but they put a lot of work into the zero-G portrayal.

I haven't seen the movie and have only seen a trailer or two, so they could use have used them in the movie, but I remember her hopelessly floating away even though there's RCS thrusters on the suits. It lead me to believe that the movie will probably just be over dramatized as that seems pretty simple. It could possibly be a good movie. (I don't really have much intention of seeing it though.)

I don't think so. He said (and I quote): "Nearly all satellites orbit Earth west to east yet all satellite debris portrayed orbited east to west"

Another: "Satellite communications were disrupted at 230 mi up, but communications satellites orbit 100x higher"

Again: "Why Bullock's gravity, in otherwise convincing zero-G scenes, did not float freely on her head"

AGAIN: "How Hubble (350mi up) ISS (230mi up) & a Chinese Space Station are all in sight lines of one another"

He did end his rant with "I enjoyed it". I don't think I would enjoy it very much

For some reason when I saw it at home, I didn't like it as much and to me it felt overrated by the reviews. Don't get me wrong it was okay and maybe I had high expectations from what people said. But to me it was probably one of those movies you'd only enjoy if you're watching it on the IMAX big screen or something.

She doesn't have any thrusters- (mild spoiler, sort of) she doesn't have any juice left. The other astronaut does; so they didn't forget it- she just doesn't have any, plus she's almost out of CO2.
