Gravity, people.

Well, what can you do; you get to fly, you give up atmosphere! What do we need oxygen for? Psssshhhh! Preppy British, always worried about stupid stuff like that...

also to what extent is floating around aimlessly and without control, flying?

I like how they depicted space as it would be, without sound....just radio comms between the various parties. The story line seemed "ok", but I was a little un-sure on the end result. What was the purpose in this whole thing adventure? Maybe she learned to appreciate and love life more/again after the loss of her child? I was kind of thinking that the whole thing was a dream, and she would wake up at the end.

It was good, and George and Sandra played A-List roles in this film. If you had some mediocre actors playing the parts, it would have failed. For this reason it give it 8.5/10

Yeah, I saw it as a kind of 'rebirth', and that she would stop driving and start a life, now that she's seen how precious it is.

I saw it in theaters, but only in 2D. start of the movie, it was so cheezy i thought the whole thing was animated at first. right at the start, with him flying out into the screen and such, in 2D it looked so so so bad. for the rest of the movie, it had interesting parts, but 15-20 minutes of blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh inbetween.  i guess i might be spoiled by movies that leave you on the edge of the seat. most movies if you finish your popcorn or have to go to the bathroom, your waiting until its over. you cant miss anything. during gravity i had no problem walking right out for 10 minutes, just to come back to her floating around doing nothing.

I would say if your in a 3D theater and the ticket was free, itd be worth your time, other than that, go read the tech fail thread. all 130+ pages. itd take about the same amount of time and be more enjoyable.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Who said that? Most realistic space movie ever, even real astronauts said there were only one or two tiny details that were stretched, and at that they're not into the realm of fiction.

I watched it and loved the movie, but the very end was unrealistic.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

In reality she could have never gotten out of that shuttle in the water, your muscles need quite some time to adjust to earths gravity again, which is why astronauts getting back need to sit for quite some time.

But I still think it's acceptable because it fits the end. I normally don't watch movies in 3D but I did watch this one in 3D, and it really was great.

I thought that's why they put her into water; you float easily, and it's as close to zero-gravity as you can get on Earth. They also made her struggle to get up after, so I think it made sense in a way.

so much CG ?

ofcourse its CG do yo think hollywood can afford shooting is space  :P

I haven't seen BTS footage from any new movies other than Gravity (I'm not really a movie person. I go watch a movie maybe once or twice a year.) and i was kinda surprised from the amount of CG this movie had.

I know, it's located in space and stuff, but the glass in their helmets was CG! And like 70% of the actual space suit was CG. They only wore like the torso and upper arm and half of the helmet.

I guess i really haven't seen any "modern" movies lately :D

But still, i really liked the movie. Other than the woman who was sitting next to me that smelled like perfume and cigarettes. Gross.

What if she was already dead by the end and her getting out of the shuttle and out of the water was her "entering" the afterlife? Like the scene where she turns off the oxygen and hallucinates Clooney's character is the moment of her death and everything after that is the journey into the Great Perhaps.

Haven't seen it and i generally dont go to the cinemas anyway because there's just crap hollywood stuff on most of the time. I heard it's pretty boring with most of it being sandra bullocks tits flashing across the screen.

Oh no. Although it was a good movie there were many that were better in my opinion. Her (released in 2013 but went major release in 2014), Frozen, American Hustle, Spectacular Now, 12 Years, Before Midnight

Nice interpretation, that's also why I said it was an acceptable end haha :)

Yeah, I understand that interpretation, but then I feel like the entire movie was a 90- minute death sequence, and leaves me kind of depressed... Like all of that was for nothing. I like to think of it as a rebirth, and the old, lost Ryan died.

meh, is the best answer lol

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

This is one of the least sexualized 'big budget' films of the year- if all people do is look at her boobs, then that's their fault, not the movie's. Not boring at all; the most boring it gets is the occasional long-take of her floating around the Shenzou.

Alright, I saw it.

I was REALLY good. The acting and vfx were superb, and I though the plot was solid (I was expecting a HAL-esque evil robot, but was pleasantly surprised). I did have one thing that bugged me though; the moon has low gravity, yet at no point during the movie did weightlessness become apparent; floating pens, buckles, etc. It seems as though they had manufactured a way to make 'gravity' there (I WAS in the future, so who knows). But I was really tricked by the plot, and the ending was depressing, but great.

*SPOILER* But the clones all die after three years (as they're programmed to), so wouldn't Sam (#8?) die not that long after reaching Earth?

But I really enjoyed it; I never knew it existed before you told me, thanks a lot for the rec!
