450W Enough for a 1060 6gb?

I'm looking to upgrade my RX 560 2gb to a GTX 1060 6gb, i'm not that concerned about bottlenecking either. My only concern is that if my 450w PSU is enough to handle it.

Here are my PC Specs:

AMD FX-6300 3.5ghz

RX 560 2gb

16gb of 800mhz ddr3

1.tb HDD 7200rpm

In addition to this I have 2 case fans

75w TDP for rx560

120w TDP for 1060 6gb

NVIDIA's 1060 page says 400w minimum so should I be fine?

What power supply is it? Some are good, others are bad

Also gonna add that 450W will be cutting it pretty close, I would push for a decent 550W.

Yes but it's like saying :

" Is 1/3 tank gaz enough with my car to go from location X to Y " and the answer would be  :  " Well yes but you might be short "

You don't want to run out of gaz and get stuck on the highway right ?

Maybe not the greatest comparison but in other words : Yes but you should consider buying a good one like 600Watt to make sure you don't fry components

It's nowhere near 450W.

450w will be plenty. Total system consumption will be around 250w or so. You're looking at 125W from the GTX1060 and 100w from the FX 6300 at stock. Rest isn't going to use any significant amount of power.
As long as it is a halfway decent PSU you shouldn't have any issues.

More watts does not equal better.

Alright, I think I'll wait a little bit longer and save up for a new PSU while I'm at it. Thanks for informing me on this, it's better that I know now rather than be disappointed when I get it.

Which model PSU do you currently have? If unsure you can open the side panel of the case and should have a label with the brand and model number on the side or top of the power supply.

@Spotty

After opening up the side panel the only identification on my PSU I could find was this code CIN:0450AT171924

It may of had a branding sticker on the other side but to see that I would’ve had to remove the PSU from my case.

Can you post a photo of the psu?

What case are you using?

A lower wattage PSU will generally not fry a system, and more watts doesn’t equal better. A 1000W Chinese cheapo unit could die from an i5 and a 580 while a 450W Corsair CXM would be fine. Your car gas comparison is ridiculous, as a Ryzen 5 wont ever just start using 200w.

As a good rule of thumb, I usually take the PCPP estimate and then add 100-150w for extra room.

Yeah but the 8100 is a locked i3 chip, those aren't anywhere near as power hungry as an overclocked FX-series

If it helps I'm also not overclocking my CPU and not planning to since I have a stock cooler.

Get a 550W at least, I think you're cutting it a bit fine with just 450W. Because either way if you do make an upgrade in the future, you're probably gonna need a new PSU anyway.

And chances are most 450W PSU aren't that great anyway, only a few from Corsair/be quiet!/Bitfenix that are at least 80+ Bronze are good.

@WoodenMarker

My case is a Phanteks Eclipse p300

Sorry if case is dusty, this is the first time i've opened up the back panel on my pc. The PSU is black with one sticker on the top with the code.

Other than that there are no stickers on any other sides. (The other side opposite this picture may have stickers on it but I couldn't get to it just from the back panel)

Judging by the looks and the number you sent, it seems to be an EVGA unit. Probably the 80+ White one, so not horrible but definitely not good.

You should be able to slide the psu out after removing the rear screws without removing any of the cables as long as they haven't been tightly tied away. You can then get a good look or photo of any labels at the top or side of the psu.

with a stock 6300 + 1060, 450w is plenty fine.

my OC'ed 980 TI + 3770 pulled 400w from the wall.

I have a 1060 6GB with a Corsair CX450M. However, I am really due for an upgrade with the power supply before adding anything else.
