I5 8600k bottleneck

So, i'm noticing something not normal with my system, my i5 8600k is bottlenecking my 1660ti, but it doesn't make sense because it shouldn't be (I don´t think). I think the problem is low RAM (8gb), making so that the CPU can't keep up. I even tried OC, got it to 4.7Ghz stable, with no cooling problems, but it didn't seem to do much, so I turned it to stock.

I just want some opinion on the matter.

i5 8600k

GTX 1660ti

Is that Battlefield V? I've heard that's a very CPU-intensive game, which may explain your problem.

Yeah, I know but it happens in every game I play: Fortnite, Forza Motorsport 7 and others @Crunchy Dragon

Oh yes your issue is 100% the memory, single channel 2400mhz 8gb for BF5? big nope, your bottleneck is the RAM and you don't even need to bother looking past it.

 

For conscious relief you can DDU in safe mode and reinstall the nVidia drivers fresh new to ensure the GPU is behaving as expected.

Thank for your help, I need some advice, do you think that getting a 4gb stick and put it as dual channel is a good idea, or should I definitely get another 8? @Princess Luna

Try finding the bottleneck with tools rather than just guessing. I'd use MSI Afterburner for example and look where the issue is. Of course you can just buy more memory instead, but there's a chance that this isn't even the problem you should've fixed.

The tools used were MSI Afterburner and it clearly showed RAM being maxxed out.

It will probably work in asynchronous mode with mismatched sizes but it won't be optimal

Did you not look at the pic in the first post?

In BF5 was kinda obvious, but for example Fortnite, same bottleneck but it's only using like 6gbs, So yeah, needed clarification.

Yup, BF1 was the same. Once I changed to an i7 it fixed all lag.

Actually it's FLEX mode not asynchronous....whoops

 

Seems there's some more nuance to it than that, the matched sizes will be dual channel and the extra will be single..or something.....but with ram prices so low may as well just get another 8gb stick

Yeah true, idk about there but here is half price in a 2 years time.
