Howdy guys!

My dad has had a rough time in the past few years, and used to be like me when he was my age: building, tweaking and loving his PC. But finances and some major health issues means he's had a... not great PC from a store (Curry's/PC World if you're a UK person you'll know how garbo).

I have just finished my first ever ground up PC build (posted in build logs if you're interested) and want to take it all over to his place this weekend for him to try out some games, but I want to show him some visually breathtaking games. Things that will really show off the PC and give him a good time.

What are some really visually stunning games I can pick up for him to have a play with?

Thanks!

Best one I know is Metro Exodus. Stunning even without Raytracing.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Exodus is newer, and takes advantage of ray tracing (which you can enable on your 1080)

Worth it. Beautiful game, amazingly made.

It's older so the graphics aren't as nice, but it still looks fantastic. It's also mostly underground so you don't get the vistas that you do in Exodus. What you get is more of a spooky, atmospheric, experience being in confined spaces with monsters. Just look up some gameplay footage on YouTube to get an idea.

Some other games that are visually great are the Tomb Raider reboots as well as The Witcher 3.

Latest nVidia driver allows DXR (real name for RTX/ray tracing), allows Pascal cars GTX 1060 6Gb and newer to enable it. It takes a chunk out of performance tho

your Dad?

uhm try aven colony from team 17

or maybe something like rage 2 ?

rhyse maybe to give him something old and maybe relatable

I just found out that games such as total war warhammer or total war three kingdoms work mighty fine on cheap builds ... 1080p medium settings and your good to go with a 1050 Ti

Maybe he likes to build .. cities can look amazing too or a game i'm currently playing is Oriental Empires ... a 1,5 gb game that simulates the start of the chinese empire from 1500 bc to 1500 ad ...

Ooh and anno 2205 ultimate edition is on sale over at ubisoft for 12,- euro's not to mention a whole lot of their older strategy titles such as heroes that look pretty amazing and are good fun on older systems for 2,5 to 5 euro's a piece

My dad is more into his FPS games or stuff like the Uncharted series.

He was a big fan of Doom and Wolfenstein. This comment really helped me think about that so thank you! :) My setup is a GTX 1080 and 2700X so graphics settings aren't a huge concern to me in terms of rendering ability. :)

The original Crysis still holds up pretty well. Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite are pretty nice games to look at. And I'd argue that Ubisoft's recent titles are pretty as well.

Those are just whatever's off the top of my head at the moment.
