What CPU to pair with a gtx1080?

Hello all,

I have a gtx 1080 paired with an FX 8370 and its time to stop this bottleneck, I was wondering what CPU to buy for the best value with good performance. My max budget is 240$ USD for a CPU (motherboard and ram will be supplied by my mom), I've been wondering if I should buy an I5 9600k (I've just been going off UserBenchmarks). I wanna save some money for my mom but I don't wanna sacrifice lots of performance. I just want to play games with decent frames, I don't really want to overclock, (maybe that will damage the processor) I wanna keep this computer good for the next few years. Any help to send me in the right direction will be appreciated.

I mean, that processor will definitely be way better than the FX CPU you already have. Overclocking won't inherently damage your CPU unless you don't really know what your doing. Also, I think if you buy that CPU you will also have to buy a CPU fan as that CPU doesn't come with a stock fan. Just keep that in mind.

The whole point of an Intel K-series unlocked chip is for overclocking, just don't go crazy with the voltages and you'll be fine (keep it below 1.4V)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600  Heatsink: ID-Cooling Frostflow X GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 6GB RAM: KLEVV Bolt 3600Mhz (2x8GB) Mobo: ASUS B550-F ROG Strix (Wifi)  Case: Fractal Design Meshify C PSU: Deepcool DQ-M-V2L

Keep in mind you will also have to probably buy a new  motherboard.

RE read your post - I would say yes - go with the 3600x

heres the pricing of the new zen 2 CPU’s (not full product stack, just what we know so far)

the right pick is probably one of the new Ryzen chips, wait for benchmarks for now

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
