New PC for my parents

M&M

Hello everyone, I am going to build PC for my parents, have no clues about this, all other builds are for gaming, but they don't play Crysis?

1. Budget & Location:

My budget is around $700, I live in USA.

2. Aim:

The PC will mainly used for web browsing, movie watching, casual games like Tetris? (no external graphic card?), it would be better to include WiFi module.

3. Monitors:

Only one monitor would be enough.

4. Peripherals:

Keyboard, mouse, stereo are not considered for this build.

For OS, windows 10, but please don't include this into budget.

5. Why upgrading:

They are using an old laptop which is about to die any minute, I think it would be better to build a PC instead of buying a laptop again.

Thanks in advance!

Shitty SSD. Pretty bad case. Pretty bad DVD drive.

If I was OP, I'd build an ITX system in the Inwin Choppin. I'd still use a 2400G (or even a 2200G), but I would use an external Bluray (might as well) drive (if that's even a requirement) and a motherboard with built-in wifi.

Thank you @OmicronEta and @kelvinhall05 !

It's nice to have a DVD drive as @OmicronEta mentioned. But I also think I can get a better motherboard with built-in WiFi since the budget is $700 and there are almost $200 more to spend in this build. As @kelvinhall05 mentioned, Blue-ray is a better option.

On higher end of the $700 budget, but I reckon your parents won't be complaining about performance anytime soon....

It probably is, but it comfortably fits in the budget and who knows, maybe they are chrome monsters that keep open 50+ tabs lol.

Z390 motherboard and a 9th gen i5 for a media PC? Complete overkill.

CPU: Depends on what is done. An Athlon 200GE is enough. 2200G is great.

The Rest, I totally disagree with.

Just get an ASROCK A300 and put the CPU in there. Might want to spend a bit on an NH-L9a-AM4 and maybe a 92x25mm Fan. According to some people you can make that fit. Haven't tried it (yet). Though I might get an A300 at some time.

Storage: Whatever you feel like it - as long as its 2,5" or NVMe m.2.

PSU: Integrated.

Monitor: I'd get a good quality, possibly refurbished higher end Office/Profesional Monitor. Either IPS or VA Panel.

Since we're talking about Parents, I'd look at 27" Full HD.

DVD Drive has to be seperate in an external case. Its not a problem, those are 20€ or so. Not much more than internal S-ATA Drives.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

My family PC build:

  • Ryzen 5 2400G for 4c/8t processing, as well as Vega 11 graphics. Probably overkill, but it will be solid.
  • the Aorus Pro Wifi is actually only a few bucks more than a PRO 4 and a wireless adapter. Why not?
  • 16GB RAM may be overkill, but I don't see anywhere else the budget needs that savings to flex out.
  • 240GB SSD for boot up, and to run their MS Office suite, etc. Should provide a nice experience. 3TB HDD for everything else!
  • I chose this case, since it has a decent intake on the front, and is windowless, so the LED on that MOBO won't bug them at night. No flashy stuff, so it just looks like a family PC. I didn't include, but a $6 120mm case fan for the intake and exhaust might not be a bad idea.
  • I've got this Bluray Writer. It's solid for the price :)
  • 27" 1080p monitor for favorable experience.
