Mixing SO-DIMM 2400Mhz with different CAS Latency

Go to solution Solved by LukeSavenije,

it would work, but that second stick would clock to cl17 too

I have a NUC 8 with one Crucial 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz stick with a CAS Latency of 17.    I would like to add another 16GB module.   Newegg has a G.Skill 16GB DDR 2400Mhz stick on sale with a CAS Latency of 16.   Is it ok to mix them together?   Would I have to manually set the latency in the BIOS?    Buying the exact same Crucial module would be an extra $20 or $30.   Thanks.

I would buy the exact same module you have. In addition to what @Mira Yurizaki said, you'll also be limited to your slowest stick. In your case, the speeds are the same between both sticks. But typically someone has a 3000mhz stick and wants another 8gbs so they buy a 2400mhz on sale, they will then be limiting their 3000mhz stick to 2400mhz. I don't know for sure, but I don't think OCing them would work either as it'd be too unstable no matter what you do. You'll have to bite the bullet on this one.
