"Gaming" LGA1356 Xeon build

Hi,

So I was looking at YouTube recently, and came across TechYesCity's "$24 6 core Xeon". Now, needless to say, I was intrigued yet skeptical; we all know Xeons just aren't gaming cpus. However, it appears that this LGA1356 Xeon (which can be O/C'd) outperforms my i5 3470, and will be able to handle my 1060 6gb much better (Don't judge, I swear I got an amazing deal on that GPU ($80!!!)) And, what's more, this socket (I believe) can take an 8 core 3.7Ghz Xeon, however I'm not entirely sure whether that's correct as this socket is barely documented on the internet. My question is how MUCH better will this be than the 3470? I mean will It be worth me hanging on to the 1155 socket, getting a 3770k, and maxing it out? If I did switch to 1356, I could upgrade later down the road to an 8 core, which shouldn't bottleneck my 1060 at all. Finally, "upgrading" to this platform will actually cost less than getting a 3770k, and I could use my 16gb ddr3 with it, AND sell the MoBo CPU combo making it an *almost* free upgrade. Thanks!

Well, the only reason that's the case is usually because they have more cores and are super expensive. But, 6 cores is the new hotness, and a cheap 6 core makes a decent gaming CPU.

The only thing is that a good LGA 1366 motherboard may cost a lot, and there's no upgrade path. Even though I'd take an old Xeon over an old i5, Ryzen is also immensely compelling, with new processors around the corner. Before you change platforms, see what's on the market in a few weeks.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I think you mean socket 1366 and yes the 6 core 12 thread Xeons like the X5670 for example will out perform a 3470 by a long way.

Even older Xeons like the X3440 and X3450 on socket 1156 can in some cases out perform a stock i7 3770, non K.

The 1356 board costs like $50 with limited o/cing, so not a bad deal.

No, I do mean 1356, search it up! That's why it's so cheap, because it is such a niche socket.

But still, the chips listed are similar to the one I want in terms of performance, so they will be better than 3770? Also longevity comes into it, because 6 cores gonna be relevant longer than 4 no doubt.

A niche product with low prices, quite rare. Although again, the upgrade path remains limited so weigh it against Ryzen processors coming up. The bang for your buck depends highly on the pricing of the new components.

if you already watched it you know its a low powered CPU with only 50W TDP, so the longevity will be like years (if your lucky enough).
