1440 build recommendations.

I originally was going to go with a higher end build with RTX2080 ti and i9-9900k but I decided I won't be using 4K so that might be overkill. Is the RTX2080 good enough to run max settings in 1440 with over 60fps in all games? Which CPU is the next step below the i9-9900k? My hope is to be able to run all games in 1440 at least 60fps, I'm only interested in the newer hardware though. One more thing, I have no interest in AMD, only the newer Intel CPUs.

I'd cut it back to 8700K and 2080.  You don't need a 2080Ti for 1440p 60Hz.  A 2080 will do 75-144+Hz well.

I would suggest a r5 2600x and a RTX 2080 or Radeon 7

But since that is out the window. I would also suggest waiting for Zen 2, but i also guess thats out the window.

For higher end gaming, I don't particularly care for anything below a 5GHz 8700K.  It just beats Ryzen's top offerings for not much more money.

Tho I would look into the Radeon 7 too.

Well the higher the better but i9-9900k is overkill and I think I could just use the money I would save from spending on a RTX2080 ti to for a better monitor or other components.

Honestly, 8700K + 2080 + 1440p Ultrawide = goodness.   Mid-high sweet spot of gaming love.

My opinion of course.   Peripherals matter too, don't skimp on the non-FPS stuffs.

you could also just not buy the 9900k because you don't utilize where it's good at

get a 8700k and 2080/vii/2080 ti

please

Fair enough.

Its just that in the performance range you mentioned you can save quite a bit of money.

Something like the i7 8700k + RTX 2080/Radeon 7 would be the best if you just want the right ammount of overkill with overspending a ton.

The plan was to not buy the i9-9900k or RTX2080 ti. The price difference between the 2080ti and lesser ones are massive, CPU I may only save $200 on a lesser. My thought was to get a RTX2080 but can I run the majority of games in 1440, 144hz with good fps.

I was mainly concerned with how the RTX2080 is, can it handle all games maxed out?

Also, going from Max/Ultra to High is a huge benefit for not much loss at all.  While it's awesome to say I am running Max/Ultra, Shadows for example aren't worth the FPS hit to make a little better (who pays attention to shadows anyway).  Too much processing power wasted on shadows usually.

So I run High settings or a blend of Ultra and High.  The 2080 will rock 1440p at those levels.

Dont think you will find a single title where you will dip below 60fps due to the GPU atm. Or for quite some time forward.

Well that there is RTG.

Radeon Technoligy Group.

Also fanboying is counterproductive.

Also its about Nvidia vs AMD. And right here AMD has a slight edge in terms of performance

But you're choices for GPUs is AMD or Nvidia so intel isn't an option there.

Also why do you care about brand so much if you're looking for performance?

The benchmarks I see are showing RTX2080 and Radeon 7 even depending on the game, 2080 stays cooler and has the RTX potential.

Is this day 1 benchmarks or the ones 2 weeks after launch. Because Radeon 7 suffered quite a bit on launch.

Temps doesnt really matter but the 2080 will be a little more silent. The Radeon 7 is tweaked toi give all its performance without needing manual tweaks

RTX is honestly more of a gimmick than a use, but i guess its there.

Radeon 7 is a very good option, though not a definitive answer.
