VA and Wattage? Whaaat.

Rhaemond

I'm getting a new AVR or UPS since my old one can only handle 500w and I'm expecting a new FSP Aurum Gold 700w True Rated PSU to arrive any day now.

I've asked around multiple shops here in my area but I'm confused as to what the difference of VA and Wattage is and what do you guys recommend the UPS/AVR wattage/VA that I should get for my PSU?

Motherboard: MSI B450m Mortar Max

Processor: Ryzen 7 2700 w/ Wraith Prism

RAM: Klev Cras X 3200mhz 8gb x2

GPU:  Zotac Mini GeForce GTX 1070ti 8GB

PSU: Seasonic GX-750

Case: Inplay Robin 101 + 10 fans w/ hub and remote

Storage: Toshiba 1TB, Western Digital WD Green 1TB, Crucial BX500 480GB

VA (voltamp) is volts and amps.

W (wattage) is VA, but with a power factor applied (power factor = efficiency pretty much).

I'd recommend assuming i.e. a 600VA UPS can take 500~550W.

So I'd get a UPS that's 800VA or more in your case

I just need a UPS enough to carry the load of my PC, monitor and speakers and give me ample time to shut down if ever a power outage occurs ?

Ohh thanks sir! Hopefully this can carry my PSU, monitor, and speakers and let me shutdown in case of a power outage hehe

Thought it was only the PC. 800VA is okay still, but i'd get 850VA+

So I think the next VA value after 650 would be 1000... But it says here that 1000VA = 600w... Would this be really enough for my load, sir? ?

EDIT: I'm also confused when the sellers told me that I need to get an AVR or UPS that is x2 my PSU wattage... Why?

That's weird, I'd get 1000VA+ just in case

There are also sellers telling me that 650VA is enough for my system... This is all really confusing tbh, but I've also, tried calculating my power draw and my total wouldn't actually reach 500-600w max if I calculate it actually... But still ?

So I used a PSU calculator, and I only got around 390w load wattage with a recommended PSU of 450w... So with this development, what UPS should I get?

I would just get the 1000VA+ just to be safe.. That should handle everything.. Your PSU won't be pushed to its 700w limits with the system in your sig..

I'm only getting the 700w FSP Aurum gold because the masters here are advising me to get a better PSU and it was the best value for money (28$) and plus, it will be more than enough for future upgrades hehe.

How much in watts does 1000VA really equal to? And how much time can I get from it when the power fails? Either way, I just need time to save and shutdown hehe

I'm going based off what I read above. You said it goes from 650VA to 1000VA and I wouldn't get a 650 to run everything that you want so the 1000VA seems like the best choice.. It should be able to handle and do exactly what you're looking for.. If you have a power outage it should shut your PC off on its own after it runs out of power without damaging anything..

Yea my choices here in the Philippines are 650VA then 1000VA then 1500VA then 2000VA then 3000VA so I guess the 1000VA isalready enough for what I need. Hehe. Thanks sir!

Why would you buy that ancient, shitty/overpriced gold unit NEW??!

Especially at 700W it makes NO SENSE.

At 400W it has a slight reason to exist.

!google apparant power

!google Real Power

The one is in phase with the voltage, the other does not care about that and specifys everything going on on the Power.

Anyway, I'd look into getting a better PSU and see what you can do.

For a normal single GPU System, a 550W is more than you'll ever need!

I recommended it. It was this, a generic Chinese unit, or I think some Aerocool unit from a couple billion years ago.

^Yea Lienus recommended me it. I really have a limited pool of PSU choices here in the Philippines, which sucks. If you want, I can PM you a list of all the choices available to me here, and you can give me your input. ???

^Our high end stuff is basically crap for you guys, which also sucks. (Example: Aerocool Rave and Thermaltake Smart RGB are always common here and marketed as high end PSUs for gaming rigs)

No need, didn't know that.

If he recommended it, than I think it was the least worst of the Options.

Other Options would only mean going on holliday somewhere in the near future and bring back a better PSU...

Yea I pretty much have very limited options here. The high-end gold ones have really inflated prices since there are only about 2 "gaming" PC shops that sell them.

Actually, come to think of it, most people who claim that they are gamers use any PSU that's labelled "true rated" such as the DE-500 of Deepcool and are actually calling me out for finding a branded PSU that costs a lot more than what they paid for their PSUs. They claim that I'm somewhat "dramatic" or wtvr because a PSU is a PSU. -_-"
