NZXT H200 Stock Fan Upgrades

Mista G

Recently built an ITX system and whilst everything is running smoothly, the 2 stock fans are loud whatever the settings.

What do you guys suggest are the best 120mm replacements?

The best fans regardless of budget would most like be Noctua NF-A12x25.

If $30/fan is too much, Corsair ML series fans are pretty good, around $20/fan.

If you're loking for super quiet fans, be quiet! makes some of the quietest fans avaialble.

The H200 holds 4 case fans so I think you should populate all of them too.

I was considering the Noctua NF-S12A PWM, be quiet! Silent Wings 3 High Speed and the Corsair ML Series Pro. Only looking to replace the 2 stock fans for now though.

do you have speed control for the fans? You could just slow the stock fans down while you add more fans.

NF-S series is definitely no good, it pretty much ignored static pressure in its design and is no good for pulling air. It's only used in positive pressure systems as exhaust because in that case it doesnt have to draw air into the case.

I have control over the speed, they're just noisy buggers and my excuse to replace them as exhausts with something better interns of quality and silence.

i have 3 corsair ml120s in mine and they run pretty quiet. There a little pricey but i think they’re worth it since there is no sound dampening in the h200

The NF-S12A is hard to beat for an open exhaust and is one of the best options available if you want to minimize noise. If you can afford the NF-A12x25, I'd recommend going with that if you want more airflow.

Do you have any evidence for it not being good for pulling air or as sole exhaust in a case compared to any other fan?

Do you own the H200? Are the ML fans your using the Pro series, were they easy to install?

Yea, I’ve been using the H200 for about 8 months now. I have the “premium” version of the ML120s and they were pretty easy to instal. If you don’t have enough fan headers I would use a splitter for the front two.

Here is is the amazon link for the fans I’m using.

If you're looking to lower noise, the NF-S12A and SW3 are both hard to go wrong with and are quieter than ML's. I'd go with NF-S12A's for lower noise.

If money isn't an issue, NF-A12x25's are probably the best 120mm fan.

If you care about looks, the SW3 is a pretty neutral black. The NF-S12A also comes in black from Noctua's Chromax line.

Thanks for the advise guys, leaning heavily  towards the SW3's. Disappointed to learn that the chromax versions sacrifice the accessories over colour?

That case is notoriously bad for air cooled gpu:s. You would make a bigger difference if you swapped to an sfx psu as the gpu would have more room under it and a better supply for fresh air from front intake.

Which accessories did you want?

The Chromax line has detachable cables that can be customized and different colored rubber corners. https://www.unboxingtreatment.com/2017/11/unboxing-review-noctua-chromax-black-swap-fan.html

Actually, the reviews that I've seen, say the MLs are just as quiet as the Noctua's or the Be Quiet fans, so I think that you are wrong there.

My ML fans are certainly quieter than the Noctus Redux fans that they replaced.

NF-S12A's are one the most quiet if not the most quiet fan from Noctua. Sadly, there aren't as many reviews on it since it's overshadowed by their more popular fans. There are many more reviews on Noctua's other fans that mention the NF-S12A than reviews of it.

An example here that showing the NF-S12A delivering better airflow / dBA.

https://forum.donanimhaber.com/noctua-nf-s12a-pwm-incelemesi-ideal-kasa-fani--131232058

https://forum.donanimhaber.com/corsair-ml120-pro-incelemesi-magneto--130716995

At 32.1 dBA, 326 FPM for the NF-S12A and 246 FPM for the ML120.

At 33.7 dBA, 470 FPM for the NF-S12A and 412 FPM for the ML120 at 33.3 dBA.

At 35.8 dBA, 514 FPM for the NF-S12A and 483 FPM for the ML120 at 34.4 dBA.

One of the few anecdotal but direct comparisons from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G5I6MRK/?tag=pcpapi-20#customerReviews

6ba988bdc2206ce1f613845d4290e5e7.png

To my ears, the NF-S12A is more pleasant tonally and easily quieter than ML's.
