Using a Linux VM ( also hosting server)

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and its a question.

I'm wondering if any one could provide me some steps to take in order to setup a Ubuntu VM (Virtual Machine). The reason im doing this is because i am trying to host a server off a droplet from this website * https://www.digitalocean.com * and I'm having a bit of trouble following any instructions they have, mostly because i need to get a Ubuntu machine up and running before i do anything involving the server.

A virtual Machine seems as if the only way this would work, that i can see.

Any basic tutorial on youtube will do the trick.
I suggest you try out virtualbox...

Looking at the site they are already providing you with a server to host your stuff on. They should be providing you with a VPS with what ever server OS you specify.

Otherwise please point out which part of their documentation you are looking at.

There's really no difference between a virtual server and a dedicated server - you control everything. Odds are, you have a control panel to tell them to install any base distribution you want, then configure it manually with the necessary packages needed for a web server (or use any automatic configuration options they have).

A new hosting control panel, ServerPilot, has a pretty straightforward vid about setting up a Ubuntu 12.04 DigitalOcean droplet
