NVMe is good for moving large files, if you intend to do something like video editing, sure grab an NVMe drive.

Otherwise, if you're part of the other 98% then get a sata drive and save some cash

m.2 sata is same speed as normal sata port, so I do not recommend wasting a m.2 for sata.

check out adata nvme sx8200 pro / lite, they have great price/performance

For a 1TB drive I'd get an MX500, they're about 130$ USD

i plan on buying a razer blade 14 and it has only one m.2 slot which is why i have only two options

Nvme will technically perform better but in nearly all applications you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference. It’s kind of like buying higher clocked RAM, technically better but mostly Insignificant in most uses.

at some point a drive is fast enough. If you’re constantly moving huge files (multiple gb each) then it may be worth it but if you’re willing to wait even a few seconds for that to happen then save your money and buy a SATA III device (either traditional SATA or m.2 SATA)

That's what you'll be paying for a 1TB M.2 SSD.

I have a 500GB MX500 in my laptop and I'm still not even over 200GB used. They're significantly cheaper, at about 70$ CAD

will it be good enough for like lets say 7 games plus normal applications and random useless softwares for experimenting?

Unless you're video editing or doing something like that you won;t notice a speed difference between the sata and the nvme drive.

So buy the cheaper one.

Yes, but it's kind of broken. It takes a few extra steps than it should every time you plug in the external drive. Works fine otherwise though

Mix of both

You have to re-register the drive in steam every time you plug the drive back in

well i realized if i buy like a 500gb m.2 ssd and a external ssd might as well just buy a 1tb m.2 ssd and forget external storage. my xbox has a 1tb and i have never felt like it was filled with too many games so i think ill be fine. thx for the help. ?

Because there is only 1 slot, I think it's better for the traditional sata drive 1

Get an intel 660p they are cheaper than most m.2 sata drives but perform about 3 times better(for when you do move those big files) a 1tb is about $120 USD and the 500gb ones were about $70 USD. Sorry dunno the currency exchange rate.

Or try the new wd blue nvme ones. They are about same, price as sata drives too.

Also not to forget 500GB is like 465GB once windows is on it and you are ready to go.
