I've crossed the great divide..

chrisbk88

I've made the journey from the 280 to the 780 TI, across the valley through the river and over the mountain...

My next GPU upgrade will be in 2019

R.I.P 30 FPS.

I'm eyeballing Haswell i7 and Asus sabertooth z87, as well as another 780 TI. We will see what the future holds..

i think upgrading the CPU and GPU on different cycles is a better way to go.

but yes those CPU and MoBo combinations is a good way to go as well.

ill be jumping from a geforce 9800gt to a gtx 780, but with a full system jump, so guess that we could tie in terms of extreme upgrade olimpics. (of course beaten by all 14 year olds jumping from a 300$ laptop to a decent tower :P)

14 year olds don't count. You have to have time in for it to qualify as a jump. 14 years old who were on the laptop at 13 and get a new computer at 14 are disqualified.

Ah a man that i can shares my view. I don't plan on upgrading my 660ti unless i win a GPU or it just conks out or fps drops below 15fps.

Eventually I'll make the jump from a 7790 to a 760, and then a 780Ti maybe.

Love the GTX 280, but they ran freaking hot. I remeber a couple of mine old BFG models hit 100c quite often. Congrats on the Ti, just upgrade that 920 soon.... it's almost time..

That's a bit of an overstatement. There were no applications touching the 920 in 2009 and that's still true in 2014. Simple fact is the processors being sold today are complete overkill. The only reason to buy them is satisfaction, by no means is a first generation i7 a Pentium 4. We're talking about a Core i7.

No. People seem to forget how insanely powerful a Core i7 920 is. Core i7s completely changed the game, just because we have newer processors doesn't mean it's obsolete. Software is lightyears behind. It's not like the CPU is struggling, nor will it be anytime soon. CPU usage virtually nonexistent outside of games. Never above 40% during most graphic intensive gameplay in COD:Ghost and Crysis 3. 80% peak during cinematics. Until a processor doubles the power of the first generation i7, or atleast a 75% increase, it will always be relevant.
