Zen 2 ThreadRipper vs 9900k vs 9980XE

Im desperately seeking cores for my DAW.  However I want games to run top notch as well.  We all know the 9900k is the king CPU right now, but what you all think about the Zen 2 and the Zen 2 ThreadRipper at 5.1Ghz turbo

I want to stay with HEDT so my two choices are 9980XE or wait for the Zen 2 ThreadRipper clocked at 5.1Ghz on all cores.  Also its 7nm compared with 14nm.  Would a 32 core Zen 2 TR beat a 18 core Intel is my question ?

Im attracted to the 9900k for its 5Ghz clock and superb gaming experience.  I know AMD falls short right now and even the 9980XE doesnt do the job the 9900k does in games.

I do two things.  DAW and games ;  I just don't understand how a 18 core intel can beat a zen 2 threadripper with 32 cores!  Im down with AMD, and the last processor I had from them was the Athlon back in the hay day.

9900k I lose my HEDT but gain the fastest core for core cpu in the world.  If Zen 2 TR can be as fast as the 9900k on single core then its a no brainer to grab the 32core TR coming in the summer hopefully.

a 32c 5.1ghz AMDwill destroy a 5ghz intel 28 core.

It will be Hot tho.

Doubt a 32c 5.1ghz, 4.4/4,5 makes more sense.

im in a similar thing for you, i went with 9900k, DAW usage requires a lot of "real time processing" vs amount of cores. thats the only reason i went with the 9900k, if the other cpus can hit 5ghz+ then sure by all means, ive OCd my 9900k to 5.1ghz @1.32v and im having my midi keyboard set with latency at 64samples with no problems or issues. Best idea for daws is to get higher clock spd vs as many cores as possible.

i do orchestral/epic music and 9900k is holding down real well

If I'm not mistaken, don't DAW loads like single threaded? I think mainstream AM4 Ryzen might do you some good.

Windows task scheduler is ass, doesn't know what to do with all the cores. AMD kicks the crap out of Intel in Linux.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

lets wait until we get some benchmarks really.

I dont know anything about DAW but maybe there are diminishing returns on CPU cores or it is more optimized for Intel Arch as opposed to AMD.

We'll see what get mentioned in Computex, but TR has always come later than Ryzen [number] so that's some waiting to be had.

Unless your stacking a whole shit load of effects on you'll really seeing diminishing returns at that price point, that being said I would just grab the 9900k for the gaming performace and call it a day.

My life
