What would you upgrade about my system first?

dnakruf

Hello Forum,

I've been watching Linus for a long time now.

I have decided to upgrade some old pc parts and gotten to a point in which the capital is slowly dissipating.

This was the old system:

MSI Gaming 970 Mobo

AMD FX-8350

8 GB 1600MHZ Kingston RAM

GTX 780 Asus directcu oc edition

1 TB 7200 rpm hdd

750w high power elements psu

21.5" fujitsu 60hz led monitor

Here are the new parts so far:

Gigabyte a320ms2h mobo

Ryzen 5 2400G

16GB Corsair lpx 2400mhz

EVGA 1070 FTW

128 GB sandisk ssd + the old hdd

27" 75hz dell se2717h ips monitör

If you were to upgrade the new system, which parts would you upgrade first and second and with what?

I'm on a tight budget here so keep that in mind ^^

Thanks in advance!

Your new pc build looks good, but i would get a B450 motherboard instead of a320. B450 Pro 4 is a cheap, but good variant.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

How about the processor? The gpu was the last part I changed and now I'm worried that the CPU might bottleneck my GPU.

I'd spring for a larger SSD. Kingston sells the 240gig for 30$, and that's just worth it any day...

The processor is fine with the 1070, but if you can get the r5 2600, it would be better.

I do play most of the games that are big titles: Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Sekiro, Mortal Kombat, Devil May Cry, Battlefield, Middle Earth etc..

That's what I had in mind too

mmm the iGP in the 2400G is about the ballpark of a 1030/1050 (depending on game, but point being reusing a 780 would help better). see if you can spare a bit more for a proper 2600 (and reuse the 780 untill you can afford a 1070 or anything for the price down the road)

the 780's about the ballpark of a 1060 3GB, so you should be set for now

I think you might have misunderstood me or I was not able to state clear enough; the second system is already what I have renewed.

wait, you already have the second system? o_o i don't understand the premise if that's the case

I had started upgrading some time ago and now I wanted to ask if what would you change about the new system;
If you were to change parts from the second system what would you change?

Swap PSU and get yourself a used X370 mobo after the launch if Ryzen 3000.

You shouldnt have gotten an A series board to begin with.

Could you please give me more information as to why the mobo should be of higher segment?

  1. It has poor IO
  2. Its less likely to be supported in the future due to a smaller memmory chip
  3. Poor VRM may ejd the board early
  4. No VRM heatsinks will shorten the life of the VRM
  5. It will limit performance of higher TDP chips

Those are the main reasons, just oick up something cheao on the used market around autumn. X370 is a good target

Cool, thanks!

I have read that the Ryzen 3000 might be released at next Computex, Would it be for the best to get a B450 or x370 series mobo, wait out and replace the 2400g with a 3600?

Yeah the launch is so close that just wait until they release the new chips, and then see if you want a 3600, or a 2600 at now a very reduced cost.

Get a good B450 board over a bad X370 board. See how pricing goes and how your budget ends up. No info on how the market will be

That thing is fine. Among other good ones are.

ASrock X370/B450 Pro4 and most Of their X470 boards. The B450 Steel legend is good.

Asus: a lot of meh boards. Avoid them if you are overclocking. Their X470 (not TUF boards) are fine otherwise though not recommended due to price.

MSI: B450 tomahawk, mortar and all X470 boards. X370 Carbon and similar are fine.

Tier list if you wanna read more.

For the last time, if you were to choose:

Asrock B450 Steel Legend, ASRock Fatal1ty B450 or MSI B450M MORTAR TITANIUM ?

All of them are good.

Less certain of the VRM quality of the steel legend. It appears to be good, but we are waiting on reviews. In the end any of them are good.

If i were to rank them for the time being

Fatal1ty<Steel Legend<Mortar.

Mostly due to lack of info on the Steel legend.

Note: B350 boards are different, this ranking doesnt apply to those boards.
