Proper 240mm Water Cooler + Case Air Flow Setup

acuity2009

Linus:

I searched and didn't find specific information on proper case air flow setup when the case has the 240mm air cooler mounted in the front where the air flow is supposed to come into the case based on 101 case air flow basics.  Its my understanding that air flow for the water cooler should blow outward.  If that is true, it is blowing in the wrong direction if air is supposed to come from the front of the case where its mounted.

Please help me properly setup the air flow for the case and water cooler I have.  The case has room for one additional 1x120mm.  So we have 1x120mm fan and 1x240mm water cooler.  Need to know what direction the fans need to pull or push air from and to.  Thanks, ~ Rob

Setup:

Corsair Hydro H100i Pro RGB AIO Liquid Cooler

Thermaltake Core G3 ATX Slim Small Form Factor case

CPU: i7-8700K

Hey Rob,

I may not be Linus, but I can help you out here.

The direction of airflow should always be intake on the front and bottom, exhaust on the top and back. You are correct there.

However, your radiator does not need to blow air out of the case. If you mount the radiator to the front of the case, you should make those fans your intake fans. Even though the air inside your case will be a few degrees warmer, you won't have any issues with temps on the rest of your components.

Here's a video from Jay if you're still concerned. :)

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/
