So recently I killed my x79 board and instead of paying too much for a second hand board I decided its time for an upgrade. Currently I'm looking at an i9 9900k and an i7 7820x. I game a bit but I need something for game development. I do high poly modelling, high res texturing and also do some renderings from time to time. What platform would be a better option?

Cheers.

more like AMD TR1920X 12 core versus Intel i9-9900k 8 core. TR has more multi core performance and supports larger memory capacity which is useful for work, but i9 has more single core performance which benefits in gaming and single core work. They both cost about the same to buy (TR itself is cheaper, but the motherboard is more expensive).

Gaming or work, which one do you value more?

Don't wanna step on any toes but literally every experience I've had with any AMD product has been a nightmare, so I wanna avoid them :/

How much of a difference does the TR make with those kinds of workloads? Truthfully, my kind of work isn't as demanding as something like heavy video editing or rendering insane scenes, but I'd like to have a bit of power if I should ever need it.

AMD is unwieldy most of the time...

So 9900k then, a platform that has no upgrades but is noob proof as long as you dont go cheap.

No one can really help you if you closed your mind...

you have no options left, and seems no budget limit. so go with 9900k

I can't really wait. I have no other machine to use and like I said I'm not sure if I even want an AMD system.

Threadripper is seemingly. the way to go. the 16 core is quite cheap these days for what it offers.
