Core i3-2100 gaming??

A few days ago I bought a desktop PC which I think for it's price is very good... It was 58,62 euro the build plus 22,20 euro the shipment.. I payed 80,37 in total...

These are the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i3-2100 @3.10GHz 

RAM: 4GB (it was not specified which DDR)

HDD: 500GB

OS: Windows 10 Pro

I didn't buy it just for school , but for also gaming... so maybe if I put in a ,let's say, a GTX 550 ti or something "cheap" around 50 euros and add 4 more gigs of ram. Can this machine become a gaming rig? Now well I don't expect much from this PC but still.... can I game decently?

Minecraft is actually extremely CPU bound.

Interesting. I never had any issues on my old I5-650 running MC, but so it goes...

how long ago is that? MC now is a lot more complex, so it's like running a ton of mods on old MC

I ran vanilla MC. It was about 2 years ago. But my tolerance for "slowness" is probably different than yours.

that's odd. I tried to run vanilla on an i3-5010U I think 3 years ago? (version 1.5) and it's not even bottlenecked by the iGPU, it's just skipping redstone ticks all the time which glitches out the game like running MMO on high latency network with a ton of packet loss. Even on superflat worlds.

I started thinking a little more in depth about this and realized I ran a version that was never updated (1.16? maybe?) it was well before MS bought it out and the old-style interface. Anyway, for the OP, I guess even MC is out....

Just gotta say there's good advice here to drop in a 3470-3570 (K if the board supports overclocking and it came with a decent cooler AND you plan to overclock it AND will actually overclock it, otherwise get normal or S versions. I did this with an i3-3220 and it's a solid 50-100% faster at most things and has stopped freezing with multiple windows open in Chrome.

Back in 2012 I built a Celeron G540 system. It was decent enough to run media like movies and YouTube. Later I upgraded to i3-2105 but used an HD6670 video card with it. I was able to do some gaming on it but not heavy. It's really a terrific CPU no doubt but had some limits.

 

After that I upgraded it to i5-3570 and it really picked thing up quite a bit. Maybe you can go that route. It uses DDR3 mems for all the CPUs.

 

By the way, I'm using my Ryzen 5-2600 build but I kept my i5 box. It's too good to sell for what's it's worth today. I'm not taking a loss.
