[Amazon] Kingston SSDNow V300 120/240GB [$59.99/$124.99]

I grabbed 2 120gb models to run in raid 1. Double the storage and performance for only the price of one normal value 120gb SSD. Thanks for pointing out this sale.

I think it's worth spending like $10 more for a faster SSD.

You most likely wouldn't notice the difference.

Am I misremembering or don't the IOPS of Raid drive scale poorly (this was the case when I had 2 128 GB agility 4 drives but that could of just been a poorly performing onboard RAID controller, i didnt keep the second drive long enough to try it on a higher quality board or with a real raid card)

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

You can trust me, I'm from the Internet.

Iops don't scale with raid. Only sequential transfer speeds do.

Well then that would explain my result :D. I much prefer a higher IOPS rating because ATM after 400MB/s  read/write the difference in usability for most applications is imperceptible to myself while slowdowns due to writing a huge number of tiny files is much more noticeable.

also in the post that he links the equivalently sized 830 did not last anywhere near 2000TiB

Dives that are much smaller use fewer NAND chips even in the same product line are not directly comparable.

???

i have no idea what link you are talking about that did not last anywhere near 2000TiB

3 things

1 I was mistakenly looking at the MWI exhausted figure. Sorry.

2 That is a 256GB model and is not comparable to a 64 GB model in the same range never mind one from a different manufacturer. the 64 GB 830 on that page exhausts its MWI at 85 TiB vs 827.9 for the 256GB model in that graph.

3 One drive is not a valid sample size for any of these test (then again the same argument can be made for almost all reviews on the net so meh)

It is fact, that the SSD has bad performance if it's firmware is 5.0.5, which is basically any SSD produced after Summer 2013. If you should have a dirve with that fw you should be able to update to 5.2.5 via this link http://www.kingston.com/en/support/technical/downloads?product=sv300s3&filename=V300_525fw_Win
Have not tested it yet, though. Still at work. I will update this when i know ;) As usual, do a backup first ;)

Update: As of 2/17, the 120GB version is $66.

It's a great value ssd and I've worked with a good number of these. They feel quite better in person than they would seem to from the pictures with a sort of hard matte metal casing. Anyway, it's hard to go wrong with it.

I'm not sure when the sale ends or when it will go out of stock so grab one while you can!

I wasn't possible at the time, but I can see that it is now. :) However with tax and shipping it ends up being only slitghtly cheaper than just buying it at a local dealer :(

Ah ok. :(
