^^^ Yep. I've had two in the past (An MSI Gaming 6G and an EVGA SC), they're beastly cards. A little power hungry but ones with good coolers don't get too hot if you feed them fresh air, and they match a 1070 in games, beat it in compute.

GTX 980 Ti is significantly faster but it consumes more electricity and Maxwell is really getting forgotten already by nVidia drivers wise...

 

I'd consider a second hand 1070 by now.

1070s are about $220 on ebay so i would look for one of those. But if you can snag a 980ti for less then $200 thats a really good deal. They can overclock close to 20% higher and match or beat the 1070. It just consumes more power so you will need I would say at least a 550-600w power supply

I ran a 980 Ti and an i5 off a 450W PSU, but that's pushing it a bit. I'd go for a good 550W (the 2017 CX units from corsair are usually $50, $30 on sale and they're solid PSUs), should have you covered. my OCed 6 core Xeon and 1080 Ti struggle to pull over 550W in the hardest synthetic tests, in gaming it's around 500W or so. Doubt a 6700K and 980 Ti will pull more than that.

It’ll perform way better if OCed than a 1070 and it will also perform better in compute tasks like video editing

I dunno how much you OC-ed your 6700K, but since you are not familiar with what is happening, I will assume you running your 6700K at stock or mainboard auto OC feature.

 

6700K will uses around 120W at 4.4ghz (most mobos targeted this clock speed for their auto-OC profiles)

980Ti having a TDP rated at 250W, and with 8+6pin connection, it will eat up maximum 300W from your 12V rail.

So you will need a PSU with 500W on the 12V rail (maybe a little bit more for more headroom). So a 600W PSU. (a 'good enough' 600W usually have at least 500W on 12V. Usually, more than 500W, some reach almost 600W)

Use the tier list somewhere else on the forum and choose one in at least B tier if you are in budget. And if you are already have something good enough, then no need to worry about PSU.

Ya I would really try for a used 1070 or Vega 56 as Nvidia is a joke when it comes to keeping their older cars optimized in newer titles/drivers.. AMD cards tend to do better over time.. 

 

Wish AMD was doing a little better on the GPU side of things, while I don't mind Intel so much, I hate Nvidia.
