A. Nobody wants them, people tend to buy higher end (i3 minimum) specs.

B. No stock. Intel don't care about these low margin unit.

Why you want Pentium Gold when you can buy Athlon 200ge with better iGPU?

I know Athlon 200ge is very good choice but I didn't understand why Intel "gave" the lower market to AMD. I guess xg32's reply answered this question. Thanks to both of you.

Does anyone know why lower end Intel CPU (Pentium Gold G5X00 and Celeron G49X0) are unavailable at most retailers (unless buying from third party scalpers that charge more than 2 times the MSRP) ?

appearantly a buncha redditors bought the g4xxx while waiting for the 9900k, should be no problem finding them on ebay. Production capacity is real, and a 50dollar celeron cpu probably has similar cost to a higher-end cpu.

just like @xg32 daid, intel is struggling with production capacity.

Their high ends are in demand but low supply.

The chip that is in the low end are basically cost the same as the higher end.

They cost the same amount of wafer, so prioritizing on the higher end is more beneficial.

They aren't giving any market share away by choice, Intel has been having supply issues due to yields from their own Fabs as well as contracted ones, they've had stock issues with almost every line of processors they have recently, all the way up to the high end, they certainly wouldn't prioritize low end low yield parts, that makes no business or monetary sense.

Hence, they're hard to find.
