Stress Testing Intel 8700k in Asus z370-i

Ok I recently build my mini itx myself around November 2018 and today I was like yh why not overclocking my 8700k just for fun cuz I wanted to stream while playing any games. Well I have already did researches on the 8700k oc and I’m sure I’m doing what they say and recommendations.

im currently stress testing this 8700k for 4.2ghz (first time doing it) and this chart I’m seeing is like weird and I have never seen the cpu clock decreases around 60-75 % for 1 sec then back waaaaay up to 100% load, just wanted know is that how it suppose to go?

If if any possible way that u guys know what the best oc settings for the spec below PLEASE let me know!!

Build spec:

asus rog strix z370-I gaming

intel 8700k at 4.2ghz oc running with 1.315v

gskill 2400mhz at 2800mhz oc

asus Ryuo 120 [single fan rad cooling]

case: Thermaltake Core v1 snow edition [basicly it’s a mini cube chassis]

Why is your OC setting 4.2GHz above 1.3 volts? That's way too much voltage and that's below the stock frequency of the CPU, you'd actually have better performance at stock.

Maybe you're hitting some temp limit and throttling, because that's an excessive voltage.120mm cooling won't really cut it for that.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Yes, definitely it is throttling and also you don't need that voltage to get a meer 4.2Ghz OC.

Ah ok what would be the good voltage to use it at 4.2ghz?

Hmm honestly Im already on a plan to build me a custom homemade medium size desk that is going to be the pc case it self, and will have the real actual waterblock on the cpu and the [vram (i I think)] on the mobo, with way better coolant since I was already in plan to use 3x or 4x 140 fan rad with actually reservoir and pump.

I wanted to push the 8700k out to 5ghz, (in the new new case ofc) but the voltage may varies around ~1.34 to ~1.38 idk but we will see, either way that is where and why I’m going for it. Now I know it’s a mini itx and I’ve seen ppl have pushed the 8700k to the 5ghz zone but I wanted to make the most out of this cpu and willing to work with it as long as it doesn’t die, yes I know that pushing to 5ghz can shorten the cpu life but idc.

4.2GHz is an underclock so you can us 1.15 volts probably, maybe 1.14, but why do you want your CPU to be slower?

Also, make sure to quote people so they see your response.

Good heads up fasauceome.  For 4.8Ghz what voltage would he need.  Im assuming 1.32v
