7700k upgrade? For gaming

Yeah the 7700k single core 4ghz = 8700k/9700k single core 4ghz. There is VERY little upgrade to be had, only in a handful of games today would it help to have more cores/threads.

I've read benchmarks that only show a few FPS of difference?

 

I don't use emulator, which I believe are really CPU hungry.

Desktop: 7800x3d @ stock, 64gb ddr4 @ 6000, 3080Ti, x670 Asus Strix

 

Laptop: Dell G3 15 - i7-8750h @ stock, 16gb ddr4 @ 2666, 1050Ti

7700k is good, no need for new one just yet. what's it overclocked to?

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

And I believe new gen are as bad temps wise?

Seems like an odd statement given you are considering upgrading to more power hungry parts whose manufacturing process contributed to global warming.

Should definitely at least wait to upgrade until after Ryzen 3 is out, at the very least it should make Intel lower prices potentially. I wouldn't upgrade then either if I were you. I'd wait until Intel drops their next die shrink. Performance difference between what you have and the steps upward in games is minute and not worth the money expenditure.

There is no reason to upgrade right now.

In a couple of months, according to sources, it might be the 7.7. it might make sense.

You might want to look at those upcoming AMD CPUs then.

No I mean it gets so hot it contributes to planetary warming. It's a joke.
