Will my PSU be enough for my new upgrades? Urgent!

So Im on a budget but I will upgrade a few things to make games on my old PC, at least playable, problem is the PSU is 300 WATT only and is bolted in the case plus I have no money for a new case. So my question is will my new upgrades be able to work on a old 300 WATT PSU?

Current SPECS:

INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6750 2.66GHZ

4GB OF DDR2 667MHZ RAM (2.75GB USABLE)

WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 64BIT

MS-7358 MOTHERBOARD

300WATT PSU

750HDD(500GB ONE AND OTHER 250GB)

NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 240 GPU

 

Upgrades I will make:

CPU UPGRADE TO: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9650 3.0GHZ

8GB RAM DDR2 800MHZ RAM UPGRADE (2GB IN EACH SLOT, 4 SLOTS)

NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 1030 GDDR5 OR NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 750 TI, EITHER ONE

It should work fine. I'd still replace the PSU.

Despite that, an upgrade to a quality PSU is not a bad idea, and they can be had for reasonable prices, so consider that for your next upgrade.

Do you have more information on the 300W PSU? Such as a model number? Even a photo of the label on the side of the unit can be helpful.

300W is enough wattage for your system - even with the GTX 750Ti and the Core2Quad Q9650 you should be around or under 200W power draw - however I have concerns about the quality of the unit, and whether or not it can even deliver the 300W it claims (at least on the 12V rail required by the CPU and GPU). There's also the concern over the age of the unit, and whether it is as old as the other components in the system (your Core2Duo CPU is more than a decade old).

OEM, meaning they grey PSU found in a HP Z workstation. Or OEM, meaning those grey PSU with almost CoolerMaster written on them (because they don't want much to do with it), that come from CoolerMaster cases - They're leagues apart, one will be one of the best 300W PSUs around, the other is a fucking bomb.

And, since it came with the Case, real shit.

 

So with that, you will burn your hardware with that garbage PSU...

Hi Guys so I opened up the case and took some pictures. I took pictures of the PSU info and the whole PC inside as a general. I also took pictures around the PSU, maybe you could tell me if its bolted in the case, as I seriosuly dont know. That's not a bad PSU.... That's an FSP.  But it is rather old.  I'm guessing that the "P/S" number is a date code, it's over 15 years old.  It's bound to die soon.

A PSU wattage calculator only calculates wattage (poorly)... It won't tell you that it's a bad idea to use a 10+ year old PSU...

Ah I tried the PSU calculator but they all say I need above 300WATT, thats even if I keep the same Core 2 Duo CPU and not change it?

Yeah, just ignore it.

You should be replacing your PSU anyway simply due to its age. Lowest wattage decent PSUs start at 450W anyway so wattage won't be an issue for your build, even with the GPU and CPU change you're planning.
If you're in the USA, you can pick up a CX450 for practically nothing. $19 after mail in rebate ($39 up front).
