Why new metro is so demanding ?

Hey guys, ive been wondering. I had GTX 770 back in day and it could run Metro last light redux no problem at very high settings FHD wtih 60fps in most cases, Game still looks amazing and well optimized. Now i have GTX 1080 TI and i saw guru3d performance review on metro EXODUS. Chart shows that 1080 TI gets 71fps average and 2080 TI gets 95fps AT FHD. What the hell?? from what i saw, game doesn't look any better than prievious , but why it's so taxing ? on the bottom of the chart i see GTX 780 TI with 25fps average, also what the hell...  My main concern is, why games doesn't really look any better each year, but they are more and more taxing...

I've got a watercooled 1080ti FE, and I'm having no issues with running the game at 4k Ultra. Getting a decently solid 60fps.

 

The only issue I am having, is a Crash To Desktop. My video freezes or goes black, audio continues and I can still shoot (based on sound), but the video is completely borked. It's happened twice. Always when I went to interact with something.

 

As for the looks, I think it looks far far better than LL or 2033. The improvement is incredible.

 

Looking at your spec's, I actually have the same monitor (lol). I think perhaps your CPU might be the issue?

He is using an i7 2600k, Which bottenecking his GPU..

Well it seems your CPU is causing the problems..

It looks great, but has a cost.

People want to use higher settings,... and are internally unpleased at disabling visuals (forced to use sooner than expected?) that give them play-ability.?

It JUST launched though...Give it a few months of incremental performance fixes/updates.

Thank your CPU for the frame rate. Time to move on.

 

I have 2 computers side by side. One running Last Light and one running Metro. There is a big difference outdoors. Not so much indoors.

Since the "RTX" drivers I have had a lot of CTDs in some games with my 1080 ti. In tests the GPU was at 100% when it happened. Even though my main gaming rig is 3440 X 1440(2x1080 ti) I find myself using my 4k rig(2080 ti) more. Hopefully this will pass.

My cpu is fine, it never was a cpu problem. IT'S 4K not FHD. I am getting 140-200fps in fortnite at 4k with tweaked streaming settings. Getting 104fps average on ultra in far cry 5  at 1440p and 62fps at 4k.

My cpu is fine, i am gaming at 4k there is no bottleneck and never was. My i7 2600k is clocked at 4.8ghz, get's 170 points in cinebench single core test, which is higher than Ryzen and is more on par with i7 6700k stock. So no, I WAS ASKING WHY metro exodus doesn't look any better than previous, but are extremely demanding on gpu.

I retired my i7 2600k at the beginning of 2018. I retired my i7 6700k in the middle of 2018.  When I ran the 2 CPUs side by side at 4k I realized there was no point in upgrading the i7 2600k. When I upgraded the i7 2600k to an i7 8700k there was a big difference in performance and the i7 6700k had to go as well. 

 

My Son runs an i7 6700k with a 1080 ti and plays at 1440p. He is not into extreme PC performance and is totally happy with his setup.  So I know where you are coming from.

I will upgrade my cpu this year, and i am excited about upcoming ryzen cpu's. But for now only at 4K 2600k is fine, ofc it's nothing special. But still cpu is more than capable to give me 60fps+. i don't aim for 144hz  You know well, 2600k isn't bad cpu

I am to but I need a Cinebench single core score of 240 to upgrade. I am at 220 with my i7 8086k.

 

I did some tests. The textures used in the game make 4k pointless. Here are my test images. 

This is with raytrace on high.

I am not going to upgrade my 1080 TI any time soon, going to wait for next nvidia or maybe AMD cards. Can you tell me which settings are best for 1080 TI to get 60fps on 4k in metro exodus ? i saw on youtube that at max settings it gets like 36-40fps at most with extreme preset. What about ULTRA preset and with DX11 ?

I'm 98% certain it's your CPU being older. Fortnite will run fine in 4k because it's graphics aren't as demanding. Also you can't really compare games like that anyways. Two completely different game engines will have different performance on any system.

 

Older CPU's are less "efficient", and I don't mean in terms of power usage. They do less work per clock cycle than newer CPU's, so despite being decently overclocked, your CPU is still going to struggle to keep up on a game like this.

 

Sure the performance will probably get a little bit better with time, as the drivers are polished, but it's still going to suffer from the older, less capable CPU.

I know that at 4k ultra I am in the 60s with DX 11 and 12 outside. On high I am in the 90s. That is with a 2080 ti. With a 1080 ti I would probably play at 4k high.

 

The game is a bit of a pain because of the big differences in frame rate between inside and outside. I am leaning toward playing it at 1440p with high raytracing or 1440 ultrawide without raytracing. I will know soon.
