GPU DILEMA (RTX BURN!?!?)

Hi everyone.

 

What brings me here today its the simple fact that i have this dilema now, im going to build this PC very soon, and iv been watching alot of bad reviews about the "RTX 20´s" series some say its becouse of the DDR6 memory, that reach very high temp values so it degrades faster and set the GPU to get artifacts on the screen...or worst...it sets on fire. 

So wanted to know if:

Any of you owns an RTX 2080 TI GPU, for how long and how is it "behaving"?
Should i NOT be worried, and buy the RTX 2080 TI GPU?
Should i buy a ASUS ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-O11G-GAMING ?

Should i buy 2x ASUS ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-O11G-GAMING and link them in SLI instead?

 

(money aint the problem here, i just want an equivalent replacement for the RTX 2080 TI, if i need to replace.

That was with the initial launch models. You can buy a 2080 Ti nowadays and there's a pretty high chance it'll last.

 

Though there are some stupid decisions in that build, like getting a 9900K at all and 2TB NVMe drive instead of just going with something like a 860 QVO that will still perform well

 

I'd get a X470 motherboard and 2700X instead of the 9900K, and no H150i because liquid cooler not needed for Ryzen, then when Zen 2:tm::copyright: comes out I'd upgrade to a 3800X

SLI kinda sucks I don't suggest that you go for it. Not much support for SLI so it isn't viable.

 

The 2080 Ti's that were dying was linked to the card have the same PCB as the founder's edition card (reference) so the cards that have custom PCBs are at a lower chance of dying like the other cards did.

If you're worried about heat, and money is not a concern, build a custom liquid cooled loop to cool the CPU and GPU.

I was suggesting that you shouldn't waste your money on the 9900K, and instead get a X470 motherboard, a 2700X and no liquid cooler, and then when Zen 2 comes upgrading to a 3800X or 3850X that they say will come out.

I was also saying that getting a 2TB NVMe drive is stupid; i'd rather waste my money on a Optane 900P 280GB and 860 EVO 2TB, which would make a faster boot drive and the 2TB drive would still be fast.

Quero agradecer desde ja as tuas dicas, no entanto o dinheiro não é a questão aqui, não sei porque é que as pessoas falam sempre no dinheiro quando apresento alguma build, quando nunca pergunto nada relativamente a preços, mas obrigado na mesma.

Prefiro mais Intel do que AMD, em relação aos discos , escolhi esses porque em relação á reading /writing speed é o triplo do que o disco que mencionas.

A questão era mesmo a grafica, mas ja estamos para aqui a divagar.

Sim, estamos a divagar. Eu estou OK com tudo que dizes, mas a read/write speed (3000/1500MBs essas coisas) é só as sequênciais (que não interessa), a Optane 900P tem performance muito melhor 4KQ1T1 (a velocidade quando-se está a copiar/mover ficheiros por exemplo) do que, por exemplo, uma 970 PRO.

I would be more inclined to say they won't last as long because of all the other components on the die now. We have no clue the lifespan of RT or tensorcores. Tensorcores were announced in 2016 so they haven't been out long enough to gage what constant heat from the GPU core will do to it.

I use a RTX 2080 ti and have a GTX 1080 ti SLI rig.

 

If you want good info on 2080 ti issue got to the Geforce forums. https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/227/geforce-rtx-20-series/

 

If my 2080 ti card dies I will RMA it and as I wait I will put in one of my old cards(GTX 1080). RMA is an inconvenience. Not the end of the world.

 

If money is not a problem get a 3 fan/3 slot card or water cooled. They are noisy.  

 

Most of the games I play don't support SLI. I have 2 1080 tis because I bought a 2080 ti and I have 2 gaming computers. I have my 1080 ti connected to a 3440 X 1440 monitor so the performance of one card is enough. 

 

A 5ghz CPU is a good idea to use with a 2080 ti. People with less seem the have more issues(stutter).

If the issue is that tensorcores don't last long due to heat then maybe. But that's not a for sure thing by any means. It's really anybodies guess and the only way we will tell is in the future when cards start dying like the whole motherboard capacitor fiasco that happened many years back

It's up to you. I wouldn't suspect the cards to die for any reason but in the 3 years tensor core has been out there has been 3 generation of them, all significantly better than the previous. Turing uses the 2nd generation of tensorcores so I wouldn't be suprised if the next generation of cards destroys these in ray tracing performance. So in my personal opinion while ray tracing looks cool, there are 2 games and demo that support it and it takes a huge performance hit.  I would buy a used GTX1080ti for cheap and wait for Navi and the next generation from Nvidia

It's up to you. I wouldn't suspect the cards to die for any reason but in the 3 years tensor core has been out there has been 3 generation of them, all significantly better than the previous. Turing uses the 2nd generation of tensorcores so I wouldn't be suprised if the next generation of cards destroys these in ray tracing performance. So in my personal opinion while ray tracing looks cool, there are 2 games and demo that support it and it takes a huge performance hit.  I would buy a used GTX1080ti for cheap and wait for Navi and the next generation from Nvidia
