150-200$ open loop cooler, starting with just a cpu water block, with room for a gpu block in the future?

How realistic is this price point? I know I can get a better value with an aio, but I want the experience of building an open loop. What parts would I need?

i5-8600k, MSI Z370-A Pro, 2x 8GB DDR4-3k, MSI Gaming X 1060, NZXT S340, 2TB HDD, 750w Corsair PSU, AOC 2775 OC'd to 80Hz and CFG73 at 144hz

Agreed, the alphacool AIO that can be expanded is a good choice.

Would it be worth looking into something super custom, kinda scrapyard war-sy?

you should just hold out till you have the parts for a open loop. these aio parts use special fluids or materials that would destroy your open loop in the future. please wait

Not really true.

Biggest concern is simply not mixing metals.
