New laptop for development purposes

Hi guys

First of all I want to apologise for my english (non native speaker). I'm actually from Belgium.

After 7 long years it's finally time to replace my Apple Macbook Pro 13inch from mid 2012.
At the moment it's rocking:

- A intel core I5 3210M

- An old samsung 512GB SSD on the sata(3?) interface

- 8gb DDR3 1333mhz

- Intel HD4000 gpu

- 13 inch screen with results in the following outer dimensions:

  • Height: 2,41 cm / 0.95 inches
  • Width: 32,5 / 12.78
  • Depth: 22,7 / 8.94

At the moment I'm studying computer sience at the university of Leuven. I didn't have any problems with smaller (java/python) projects in my first year of studying. But now it's becoming more and more an issue. Especially when running multiple VM's.

I do not game at all. But we do get courses (roughly transled): "visual user interface" , "graphical surrounding for end-users". So for the gpu I'm thinking about an mx150 or similar.

What do I want on my laptop:

Screen:

As I said I have a 13inch but I noticed the recent trend of small bessels. So 14inch laptop's with the same outer dimensions at my current laptop are also an option. I don't want a bigger laptop! (I have several Peli Cases where i should fit in for traveling and work)

I would like to have a higher resolution and beter sRGB accuracy because I do like to watch movies. But it shouldn't be the main focus.

Battery life:

3-4 hours should be the minimum. Everything better then that would be nice.

OS:

I'm a sucker for Apple's Mojave

But i'm also aware off al the bad decisions that Apple is taking so Linux Ubuntu is also an option.

Budget:

2000-2500euro.

Weight:

I don't care.

Specs:

I'm thinking about 16GB ram / Core i5-i7 / minimum 512GB SSD with the new high speed PCI/M.2 interface

Gpu something like a mx150 but I'm no gamer so yeah you get the point.

Extra's:

- BackLit Keyboard (!!!)

- USB type C with charging (!!!) I hate those special old-school plugs/ports for charging

- Thunderbolt3 (I'm thinking about an external gpu but I'm not sure. There are some mixed reviews out there. I still have an old GTX 770 but no docking station) (mark this as not mandatory)

- A headphone jack (!!!)

Things I hate:

full RGB (I don't mind it when you can set it to 1 color but I hate those rgb waves on a keyboard)

Laptop's I'm thinking about:

Apple macbook pro with touch bar

(core i5 8e gen - 16GB DDR3 2133 - 512GB - Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655) - 2489 EURO in belgium

Huawei matebook X pro

(core i7 8550U - 16GB DDR3 /// - 512GB M.2 - MX150 2GB - 13.9 inch 3000x2000pixels) - 1899EURO (So still some budget for an egpu enclosure)

Dell xps 13

(core I7 8565U - 16GB DDR3 2133 - 512GB M.2 - Intel® UHD Graphics 620)

1699 EURO with an Full HD screen and windows

1829 EURO with a 4K display and Ubuntu

1899 EURO with a 4K display and windows

Laptop's that are dead for me:

Asus S14 -> It has it's own charging port

Razer blade stealth 13 -> only a 256GB SSD option??

So yeah guys if you have other options? I would love to hear them!

I can give you a link to the apple store (of belgium).

The huawei I'm probably going to buy through Bol.com

https://www.bol.com/nl/p/huawei-matebook-x-pro-53010dvb-laptop-13-9-inch/9200000096123984/?country=BE

Most stores in belgium only sell 20-30 laptop's so I'm looking to find the perfect laptop before I look for a retailer.

I would recommend business laptops if you want to use Linux:

Lenovo Thinkpad T480/T480s with WQHD panel and MX150

Consumer:

Huawei Matebook X Pro

Asus UX480FD

Asus UX333FN

Asus UX433FN

HP Envy 13

Asus UX331UN

Note that many Ultrabooks have non-upgradable RAM so choose 16GB RAM out of the box
