Caligula852

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I figured this is the best place to ask for assistance with a build I am planning to build for the new year.

I haven't upgraded my gaming pc in years. To give you and Idea of how old my system is, I will list my current components and also new components that I want to get help with to start my build.

Current System specs:

CPU FAN: Zerotherm Nirvana NV-120

MOBO: EVGA 790i FTW

MEMORY: 8GB CORSAIR XMS3 DHS ddr3 2GB (1333MHz) per stick

GRAPHICS CARD: EVGA GTX 780

PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W

HD:  WD Velociraptor 300GB, WD 500GB, WD 2T

CASE: ANTEC 1200

New System Upgrade:

CPU Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i RGB Platinum

MOBO: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming LGA 1151 ATX

MEMORY: I need help with memory please.

GRAPHICS CARD: EVGA GTX 780 <----- I Know it needs upgrade but I can't spend money on a new on yet.

PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 1000w <----- I don't think I need to upgrade this.... Do I???

The 8700K is fine.

Replace the PSU with a RM650x or G2 650W

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux

You can go with either the 8700K or the 9700K, they both perform the same, but the 9700K is soldered which means slightly lower temps but it's also more expensive, it's up to you, but i would go with the 8700K.

Get yourself some 3000Mhz C15 memory, Samsung 860 EVO SSD, and probably a new PSU like @NunoLava1998 suggested.

your PSU is definitely enough, but it's been 10 years and usually that's when PSU's start to degrade, depending on how much it was stressed, but considering your previous system you barely stressed that PSU, so i don't know.. might be safer to replace it, not right now but later. (you don't need 1000W for your new system)

and in my opinion the motherboard is a bit overkill, you can save yourself 40-80$ by dropping to a 160-200$ tier motherboard, again, up to you :)

I say go for the new i7 9700k, it is a rebranded 8700k, but still the price difference is so small...

Get a Samsung EVO SSD

I haven't heard from that PSU before, how long do you have it?

as for the RAM, get a dual channel 2x8 16Gb 3200Mhz, should be fine

Since the 9700k and 8700k are almost the as others have said I would just go with whatever is cheeper at the time you build your system.

For an SSD I have both an Inland Professional SSD and a WD blue SSD in my system, they are both pretty low cost and work great.
