Dumb decisions from PC-building Companies - share with me!

Agonizel

Hey community!

Today, I saw this thing on my Facebook feed. You guys tell me stories too of dumb things you witnessed regarding PC Builds in general :)
image.png.d955d5d54f8e8489dcf008871327088a.png
Back intake and front mounted radiator instead of top, alright. Raises some questions...

So I comment (in French):"I kinda get the radiator on the front since it benefits from the intake of the front 2x 200mm fans. But why is the 140mm fan at the back an intake? Is there no exhaust? You guys might just recirculate hot air trough the case. And I hope you guys added a filter to that back intake"
image.png.5fb76a0eb9c9b56f1e4f1df75f624f61.png

So the company (TopAchat) answers: "We took out the 2x 200mm front fans to mount the CLC? Fresh air "simply" comes in from the back - we "simply" reversed the airflow"

image.png.c3c3d9fa081a01c372b03d050a9e4032.png

This gives me even more questions: "So you charge the case at full-price, then you remove the front 2x 200mm fans? Why? Also, as opposed to the H500P, the H500M has very good intake (as demonstrated by Gamers Nexus), I don't see the point of your "simple reversed airflow. You guys are compromising air intake not only by replacing 2x 200mm fans with 1x 140mm, but also by not adding a dust filter to that back intake. Just leave everything stock and mount the CLC on the top. Also, 1x 140mm intake for the VRMs around a 9700k and a 2080ti is "simply" not enough. You can't call this professional."

This is just - what the heck haha! It's all just so dumb. I like how they repeatedly used the word "simply" when they just made it all more complicated :D

I got a pc that they sent to me with dead ram sticks, a bad motherboard (all but 1 PCIE slot was dead -_-), and another where they took out all the preinstalled fans to make room for their logo plate on the front panel. there was just 1 intake and 1 exhaust that was left ( 1 of the exhausts was for the AIO on the cpu...)

They said that it was all checked, and had the builder run all the tests, and i got the "yes, everything has been checked and works" letter sent with the pc. good job cybertronpc.

well its a very 'good' and well respected company from what i know in the Prebuilt world in the US... not in my opinion. never gotten a good build from them. cyberpower pc at least accepts their faults. cybertron tried to blame me...

Maybe the customer ordered it that way? Either way, it looks messed up.

Got a computer problem? Update the BIOS! ?

Actually they just build it, advertise it, then you can buy it. So I strongly doubt a customer ordered it that way...

Some times the hard drive tray interferes with the video card and you cannot even put a drive inside it. What kind of shananigans is this other than a negligent design which is more and more common these days especially with knockoff manufacturers in Asia

sadly not, they did not answer after that

As for your Lenovo problem, it is indeed sad you could not make simple upgrades because they cheaped out on propriatery components. But in the case of topachat, they have standardizred equipment at disposal, but they still managed to kind of botch it...

Stuff like this is why I'm most likely to recommend custum built pc's, even when I am the one who has to do the building, pushing them towards this kind of crap just feels wrong.

That being said, I don't know if its because they were gaming pc's but most the prebuilts in ltt secret shopper actually used decent components, I hope it is a change for the better

Edit: Its not that they cheaped out on proprietary components, they deliberately put them there for that reason, having to build a different motherboard connector and case must have cost them extra, they knew that it would hurt the upgradability down the line

Except they didn't.  The photo clearly shows 2 fans behind that radiator.  So the case has three fans, all of them 140mm by the looks of things.

That being said, whoever decided to invert the airflow clearly has no idea what they're doing.

To me, replacing 2x 200mm fan intake with 1x 140mm is making it inferior. The fans on the radiator are on push configuration doubling as exhaust. So the only intake is  that one fan at the back... without any dust filter
