Did you know that Canada has its own NSA? Me neither!

TopWargamer

http://www.dailydot.com/news/canada-nsa-csec-cse-incidentally-tracking-own-citizens/

WE'RE NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT'S BONED!

Canada's equivalent to the National Security Agency has admitted that it may "incidentally" track its own citizens.

The admission, posted on the Communications Security Establishment Canada's website, actually came back on Dec. 20, though it went largely unnoticed at the time. It shouldn't come as too much a surprise, considering many Canadians were unaware the CSEC even existed until some of its programs were brought to light by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden's leaks. As a member of the "Five Eyes," the CSEC is one of the NSA's closest allies, and it partners with the U.S. in various efforts, like collecting the phone records of citizens.

Good ole Canada. Right? Riiiiight. No. Canada, I'm ashamed that you of all countries would spy on your own citizens. So ya, my fellow friends to the North, watch your back, and your Internet activity.

I wouldn't consider this tech news.

And I'm sure most countries have their own version of the NSA

This is TopWargamer, he always posts his articles here no matter what (probably because this subforum gains more attention than others) However, this topic is actually far more tech related than half of the topic he posts in this section.

Anyway, yeah CSEC is a thing over here. It's just most of the population doesn't know about them.

I'm surprised that you're surprised, to be honest. Of course we do. Did you know we also have an FBI? And a CIA? And an SFOD-D?

Britain has been watching its citizens for decades.

Most Communist countries do.

It's really not surprising.

It's really not surprising & to be honest, I'm sick of this paranoid posts... So what even if they are watching you? Why are you so afraid? is there anything you're hiding that is beyond the law? No? Then calm down & keep living your life.

It's funny that people think their country doesn't have some sort of surveillance agency. If not dedicated, then their intelligence agencies have at least a department for that.

Even the little Slovenia has one. My guess is only non-countries (like Somalia) don't have any, as their government barely exists...

Yeah... I wonder if I rattled off a list of all the known agencies how many people would be shocked. From Afghanistan to Malaysia to the Swiss to everyone. Hell, even the Vatican technically. Though the best spies in the World come from the Vatican. A man will tell a Priest all kinds of important things.

To be expected.

It doesn't bother me at all. The jokes about Canada being the nicest place on earth are funny and all, but the thought that our online activity isn't being monitored is just plain ignorant.

This won't change anything for me personally. My browsing habits won't be affected and I won't be crafting a tinfoil hat.

Thanks for the heads up but this "news" honestly doesn't feel like news.
