I'm sure there's a setting within VMware that will allow you to choose which input device you want to use with the software. I don't have it on my system right now to check, but I remember there being a ton of options in VMware

Yea, that's what I'm hoping for and will test this weekend when I go visit my parents for my dad's birthday, I was just hoping someone could confirm this before then though so I can search for other solutions before this weekend. (I want to let a buddy of mine play on the VM while I play on my actual OS)

The only way I see you being able to do this is if you could enable USB passthrough for a keyboard and mouse.

What version of VMware are you using?

VMware workstation 9.

I have 10 but it's not really mine so I haven't installed it yet.

You can't do that, the human interface devices are passed through, you can't click a particular mouse to activate the VM window and only have input there from either keyboard or mouse.

BUT! You can remote desktop to the VM and control it from another computer all the while you continue to use the host, but not that VM. So your friend still needs another computer to access the VM.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

defeats the purpose, if VMware won't do it I have another program that will split my pc in 2 so basically 2 of the windows "users" (as in accounts) can connect at once and be on different peripherals and screens, however VMware seemed safer...

Windows Terminal Server will let you do that, otherwise 3rd Party software.

Also, the purpose of VM's is not to allow multiple users to control one computer, but to run multiple instances of an OS or different OS's under one host.

I know that, I just had this brainstorm of letting my friend play on the VM while I use windows on my primary screen, worst case scenario is I'll have to open steam bigpicture for him so he can  do everything from the controller. (If I'm too lazy to look into this any further.)

Remoting into the computer via RDP (Terminal Server) will not work properly if you're trying to play a game. Only very limited graphics are put through RDP.

Using 3rd party software e.g. TeamViewer, LogMeIn, VNC will work but not very well - you simply cannot get that sort of performance through a network, even if you use a gigabit crossover cable connecting via LAN.
