$2000 build for a friend

A friend of mine has asked me to build him a system for about $2000 (or a little bit more) He is just going to be gaming but I wasn't sure if I should go with a 8700k or ryzen 7 2700x ill add a link to the builds I made for either (give me your two sense and if I need to change anything)

Take the Ryzen, you can upgrade to Ryzen 3000 in 6 months without changing motherboard.

Personally I would go with the i7 8700k as it has better single and Quad core performance and therefore will be better for gaming. However, the 2400x will be better for a more mixed workload. If it is strictly gaming I would go for the i7-8700k. If your firend won't be overclocking the card I would go for the i7-8700 non-unlokced CPU as you can pick one up on Newegg for $305

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

ok im changing the build with a non oc cpu but I'll be honest I dont know what motherboard i should go with (just needs to be  ATX

Why ATX?

A mid ATX should just be fine, unless you need to have 2 NVME, dual GPU etc.

Mid ATX case will save some space and compact.

Looks pretty good to me! In my opinion I would go with a motherboard that suits your needs. no need to buy an expensive Z370 mobo If you aren't going to be overclocking. That's just my thoughts on that. Good luck and happy building!

The main reason for an atx motherboard is the upgradability as I want to give my friend a chance if he wants nvme ssds and who knows maybe a dual gpu later down the road the idea of the build is to last a long time.
