Project Shield

brandon
I wasn't nearly as impressed with this until they connected to the PC. I just hope they have a decent price on it.
I'm guessing $350-400 at launch. Not bad when you consider that that's how much the Corsair 900D is going to cost.

Someone has to..... merge all topics about NVIDIA's conference together.

Any mods around?

I think that if they sell it above 300 dollars, nobody would really buy it

do...how did they connect the Ethernet cable, through USB?

Wow WHAT? No price? no ETA?

Dude, this is the first time they've announced it, of course we won't see anything now, maybe at E3 if we're lucky.

Disregarding the no price and no ETA (Seems they still have a few things to iron out)

I gotta say, this actually looks like something i'm going to buy, for the simple fact, I can play my PC Games on a handheld on my couch. Obviously i'm not going to use this for games such as MMO's etc. But for platformers, racers action-adventure games, this is actually a pretty cool piece of hardware. Depending on the price, I'm probably going to pick one up.

It's a pretty cool concept but I honestly doubt I'll jump on it. Maybe after I get my rig built but... ehh I still would rather use my PC.

Just read this in twitch chat. "Nvidia_manuel: We have not finalized a price but will be comparible to other portable gaming devices"

Seems it'll be around the $300 mark or so, which is what I was expecting.

You better believe that the Tegra 4 is up-scaling to 4k. Thislooks like up-scaled 720p with some AA or something like that.
Did you even think for a second that a 680 could max AC3 at 4K? I expect that the 4K video and Android games were truly in 4K, while the PC games were in 1080p (downscaled to 720p for Shield's display but kept at 1080p on the television).

There is a primary Nvidia CES thread, but I felt that Shield necessitated its own thread due to how much interest it generates. I did, however, flag the Tegra 4 thread. That discussion should remain in the original thread.

Why don't you want PC gaming to succeed? We're not hipsters here, we want the mainstream to be attracted to our platform. This is a device marketed toward teens and young adults, and it will appeal to those demographics very well.

Why is this so bad for PC gaming? Augmenting the ecosystem is not destructive.

Consider this:

It plays more than just android games.

You can stream games from their new Grid (perfect integration timing)

You can play games from your great rig whenever you're traveling, which is perfect for everyone who travels frequently and my fellow military gamers (you'd be surprised how many of us there are)

I'm actually really pissed about this

They wasted valuable money for R&D on this portable gaming crap, and expect people to eat it all up

It's bulky, looks like crap, and they want everyone to have multiple per household. They never demonstrated it over WiFi, did they? I assume the framerates would be atrocious, and even when on ethernet it wasn't quite right.

They talked about how they were using a 4K TV, but at one point it flashed on the screen something about 720p output, so what's the point?

Also, the damn thing crashed when people sent it emails....

What a waste, just give us the GTX 700 series already

nvidia thoroughly deserves the crown as it single handedly ultra slapped the ps3, 360, vita, 3ds, wii u, ouya, ipad 4, every android phone, the iphone, every tablet, and most laptops in the face at the same time

because it will just lower the skill of the average playerbase then on top of it some good games may try to prefer it

taking away from TRUE pc gamers
