they use magnets instead of ball-bearing to spin. The big catch with these fans is that they're much quieter than regular ball-bearing fans

Magnetic bearings have no friction, so less noise.

They are also not new at all.

I've been very happy with the ML fans in my build.  Have 3x120 regular ones at the top, 3x120 RGB in the front and then a 140 RGB in the rear.  The biggest downside is the RGB control only works when the computer is unlocked.  Otherwise it goes to a rainbow pattern.  It's a limitation of the iCue software.

What do you mean it only works if the computer is unlocked? so if i Lock my computer as i do when im away from it, the RGB turns off?

Any DC fan uses a magnet to spin the blades so this is kind of a ripoff to take advantage of unaware users. there's nothing new about them

Actualy no. it uses a ball bearing. Yes its using a copper coil n shit e.t.c to make it move but its not the same. yeah its probably a rip off but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If the computer locks, it defaults to a rainbow pattern.

If anyone is unaware, I think it's you.  ML is for magnetic levitation, or simply that it doesn't use a physical baring.  The technology isn't new, but no one is being misled.

Also how would you even controll it? id be plugging it into my Fan controller.. not the motherboard. And even if it was in the motherboard how could it controll it through the Port? if it has enough permission for that it should be able to work while Locked

They sell three different sytles, plain with no lighting,  R/B/W single static color the RGB that use their hub to control the lighting.

Some fan blades can be removed from the  motor housing.  I believe these can, but haven't tried.

I still don't know what you are going on about.  The ML bearing is different in design than a sleeve or ball bearing which uses physical contact between the bearing and oil to hold the fan shaft in place.  The Sunon MegLev bearing uses magnets to stabilize the shaft.  All your pictures show is the components and the caps to seal the parts in place.

Believe you need to familiarize yourself with the differences between magnetic bearings and basic mechanical bearings.

They may look similar but they're different. Magnetic bearings support the load using magnetic levitation which has no contact between the moving part whereas a regular bearing does and thus has mechanical wear and higher friction which means more noise, less efficiency and a shorter service life.

While this may be a negligible improvement in a non-industrial application like a PC fan it definitely is not Corsair taking advantage of uninformed customers.

Maglev bearings do seem to last a lot longer than sleeve bearing.  I've been using Enermax's Marathon fans in builds for well over 10 years and never had one fail or even start making noise!
