When will gaming monitors be 4k and 40" ? 2020 ?

40" is basically in the TV area, I wouldn't want to have it on a desk. There is a reason why you watch TV from larger distance than monitors. The PPI of a 27" 4K monitor is far superior than that of a 40". Both will be 4K but one will look noticeable sharper.

Used Sammy 28" 4k since 2014,,,, then I got new ctfmon,,   looks just as good if not better.....

This is one of the main reasons you don't see "gaming" monitors that large: desk real estate.  For most folks sitting at a desk, 27-28" diagonal screens are likely the best option.  That's because most desks aren't 5 feet deep.  You simply don't want to be sitting that close to a 40" screen; you won't be able to SEE it all!

Yup  you said it right.  My eyes are like minimum 3 feet away from monitor.. sometimes about 4 feet... and what not.  Now when I go my old mans setup with 3 monitors and tv,, their the 28" Sammy I was talking about which I gave to him and 2 Sammy 27" 1080p …. when I go on these monitors I can't stand it its soo small.  It was first a tennis match yes,, but eventually you get used to it.... also once you go curved you never go back...……    I cant stand flat monitors either...….  This is why I need a nice 40" 4k IPS HDR 144hz heeh.. wishful thinking I suppose.

Says you.  I had the first Asus curved 34" 3440x1440 GSync panel.  Sold it within 2 months of owning it.  It fully depends on what you're doing with the monitor.  For FPS gaming, curved panels are little more than a distraction.

My RTX 2080 ti has a hard enough time running 4k at 60hz. At the most 75hz would be doable. 21:9 4k 60hz is more doable than 16:9 4k 144hz. 

 

I do go along with bigger though. I used a 28" 4k monitor for a long time. I ended up running Windows at 1440 because of text issues in some programs. Now I use a 32" 4k monitor and text is no longer an issue. Although some text is still on the small side.

I would upgrade to a 34" 4k monitor if they existed.

40" is a bit too tall for 16:9 at standard viewing distances. You would have to move it back to make it work and that would defeat the purpose.

Since jumping to a 32" 4k monitor, I just can't get used to the smaller 27" for gaming.  I would also like to see something in the 32-34" range with higher refresh rates.  Right now, I either turn on v-sync or deal with tearing.  Not ideal, but BF5 with HDR on looks great and the lower FPS doesn't hold me back.

It can go up to a 51 multiplier on all cores, but I'm keeping it simple with XMP II on the ram, and an all core sync of 50 with everything else turned on auto.  It will pull close to 200w and get into the low 80s if I run something like Prime95 with the small fft.  I'm sure if I where to tweak the voltages, I'd be able to do more, but at 4k, the cpu doesn't have a huge impact on FPS.  Now if I jump to 1440p and try to push 144hz, it becomes a bigger deal.

 

I also was past the return date of the motherboard when the reviews started to touch on the VRM issues with Asus.  Not sure I want to push them too far with a water cooled build not pushing a lot of air over the VRM heatsinks.

Can I ask what you upgraded from ?  CPU wise ?  I want to see what you had before..... to ask you if you see difference in daily activities.

Prior to it was an AMD 2700X with 1080Ti SLI setup.  That is now transitioned to a media server. 

 

I build new systems often so I haven't noticed a huge change in daily activities in years.

Can I ask what your workflow consists of ?  Also has the CPU ever maxed out, which I highly doubt, unless perhaps your rendering,,,and what not.

These are all toys.  The most work that I do right now is stitching together drone videos or checking email.  All of the technical work is done on the X99 build since it's a stable environment.  Mostly VM's for prototyping solutions.
