6th gen cpu with 8th gen mobo?

So i'm looking into building this PC with my existing i7 6700 and 16gb ram. I am wanting to use an Asus b360-I motherboard for the build. It says it supports 8th gen cpus but will the chipset support 6th gen cpus since the socket is the same?

Nope It'll only support 8th gen Chips, no clue why Intel kept the Socket name even though it's incompatible

Unfortunately not. Intel could have made it happen. Their excuse was something about the power draw of 8th gen CPUs, but that is not very credible/

probably easier to keep the same socket in all the fabrication plants. Maybe cheaper, too?
