Saving Files off Network to PC Harddrive?

Frying CPUs

I am trying to save a file from my works network drives to my PC harddrive so when they wipe the files from the network I still have them to use. I had the idea of uploading the folders i need to mediafire or mega.nz and downloading them that way to the harddrive? I tried copying them but no luck as it basically just creates a shortcut.

Hold on there buddy, I don't think your employer likes that you upload their data to mega or mediafire, lmao.

If you really want and are allowed to take the data, get a USB stick from your IT.

Install Filezilla Server on your home computer and use FTP to copy files directly to your home harddrive.

I would rather do that over the network, a usb or another hdd. I don't think they will allow you to do that.

So you want to take company files and move them off company servers so you can still access them when the company decides to delete them and then take those files and upload them to an unknown server where they can potentially be compromised?

If you're in the UK (even US, but don't know how their DPA works) get advice from your manager/boss/data protection officer before you do anything. Depending on what you're transferring it could be a breach of DPA.

If someone asks you how to eat Surstromming, do not answer that it's disgusting, give him good, original recipe. :)

Anyway, we don't know what type of files they are. It may be his own work, some code examples, anything. Maybe his boss allow him to do that. He only asks "how". Presumption of innocence should be the basis for discussion.
