could use it as a VM host, media server, dedicated streaming PC, give to a friend/family member, sell on  your local resell site such as Craigslist etc... Donate to a local school for learning purposes. 

hello im new here so im not sure if im posting on the right channel

i am upgrading to a brand new pc and i was wondering what i can do with my old gaming pc which is about 4 years old with x99 board

does any one have suggestions?

I often have the same question and I personally think that donating is the way to go. For other uses like a NAS for example, I think you can have more power efficient and recent alternatives at a relatively low price. You might also be able to reuse some components (hard drives, power supply, case...).

Just sell it cheap to get rid of it if you have no use any more.

Depends on what you're looking for. You could sell it, or you could turn it into some sort of server (plex server, for example) but it's up to you. 99% of people would just sell it.
