What causes Freying mousepads?

Is it due to your arm pushing up the edges? What causes it and how do you prevent it whilst playing fps games

I have the mm200 which doesnt have anti frey stitched edges. I have the mm200. Is that good quality that wont fray?

It's more or less wear and tear from the edges being rubbed against something. If you need something more sturdy, the edges should be stitched rather than glued.
