ASUS Strix z390 e with a 9700k?

How much overclock can I get out of the 9700k with H100iv2  on a z390 strix E in a 460x with 6 fans? 

Also what’s more future proof 8700k or 9700k?

You have to experiment yourself I'm afraid, all CPU's overclock slightly differently.

Because of tiny manufacturing imperfections in the physical silicon of each individual CPU, they all overclock slightly differently. If you're buying a CPU off the shelf from Intel, you just have to hope that your chip will overclock well. If you want a CPU that's guaranteed to overclock well, and you have a couple extra bucks to spend, you can buy from a website like https://siliconlottery.com/collections/coffeelake-r. They pre-test all their CPUs to guarantee that they'll be stable at a certain frequency. You can also get them de-lidded if that's your thing.

i mean... i have an i7-9700k on an ASUS z370-p on a 120mm AIO... and hit 5.225ghz stable... no voltage changes. maybe i just got lucky with the CPU however.

You got really lucky, my 9900k wont do 5 at base voltage, although It‘s quite a good chip because 5@1.26/27vcore

8700k for 340.00 or 9700K for 410.00

planning to keep this new system for 4-5 years. I’ll be overclocking 8700k to 5.0GHz and 9700k 5.5ghz if possible.

i recommend 8700k for that price difference, there's really no reason to get the asus mobos over gigabyte for z390 other than for aesthetic reasons.

Gigabyte Aorus line up is extremely superior cost-benefit than Asus line up on z390 chipset, Asus has cheap up on every thing and increased their marketing, much like Razer and Apple.

 

They only "seem" to be good now, they actually have the worse boards, aesthetics aside.

 

That aside between the i7 8700K and i7 9700K both processors are much the same thing, they will last with you about the same... identical architecture means the single thread performance is much of the same.

 

Same cache and the extra 2 cores evens out with the lack of hyper-threading.

No, on delidding the CPU I just want set up either 8700K or 9700K I want to hit 5.00GHz+ What’s the best bang for the buck for gaming at 1440144Hz/4K60Hz also to last 4-5 years.

Being honest either of the two, they are likely to last the same amount of time since they are so much alike... as in by the time you'll upgrade the 8700K you'll probably also want to upgrade the 9700K and vice-versa.

 

Both will get to 5ghz if you don't cheap on PSU/MOBO and Cooling... and both have the same 14nm++ cores.
