I would personally not bother, but if it's cheap I guess it's okay...

I would say if you need the performance then go for something like 2xR9 290/290X or 2xGTX 780/780Ti.

This is terrible advise bud.

690 is still VERY relevant and beast card, plus he already invest +100$ for a waterblock.

Yes, ONE GTX 690 is good, with two you get to a point to lose in performance with 4 way SLI. The 2x780Ti may not be as fast but will be able to go into 3 way SLI later on.

Tri and Quad SLI still have performance problems. Not many games are accustomed to that many GPU's. If you want a real upgrade, I would recommend waiting until Maxwell comes out and see if that will provide you enough performance.

I know many people say that you should wait, but Maxwell is potentially right around the corner, and your GTX 690 isn't low in performance by any means, so getting a second 690 I wouldn't recommend, even sinking money into dual 290x's or 780ti's could be a waste(I don't know the exact numbers between 780ti's and a 690).

I would wait, but if it's cheap and you've got the money, then why not? It just seems like it would be about bragging rights really.

Are you sure? Also there will be an issue with the amount of VRAM in the 690. The 2GB VRAM will be maxed out.

The main reason for wanting to do this is battle field 4 to go ultra and turn up resolution percentage

Ill give you the VRAM, if gaming on more then one screen or at 2.5K then 2Gb may be an issue for some games however ditching a watercooled 690 to invest 1500$ in 2x780Ti plus waterblocks is idiotic in my mind.

Then get a 780 or 780 Ti and sell the 690 + waterblock. SLI doesn't scale well on many games and BF4 gets stuttering from it. Ultra @ your resolution will net you like ~40 FPS average with a 770. If you want more FPS get a 780/Ti.

Selling a GTX690 used with a waterblock will be about 800$ so he already has his first 780Ti

No one brought up post count. SLI/Crossfire has issues in BF4. That is why you don't know what you are talking about. It causes the game to stutter and it doesn't scale well.

No I could care less how many posts someone has, I think thats a terrible readout for an individuals knowledge of computers/hardware

So then wouldn't the GTX690 SLI be the worse compared to a single card?

Any SLi is a bad idea, hence I didn't recommend him doing SLi. 780Ti SLi can be stable but you have to cap FPS and you have to tweak a lot of settings. Even then you might get micro stuttering.

What are you talking about ?? SLI is awesome. Micostuttter.... on crossfire yes, SLI... havent seen any. And what extra tweaking are you needing for SLI?   As far as a second 690, nah. Its to late. Too many pixels and too little famebuffer.

I don't think it would be worth it to get a 2nd card, other than bragging rights. Since the 690 is a dual CPU, wouldn't the scaling be the same for essentially 4 680's?

SLi has issues with stutter on BF4 also check any BF4 forum. There are also scaling issues. As far as extra tweaks when using SLi you can cap your FPS and a few other things to help reduce stutter. And yeah a 2nd 690 wouldn't help.
