Do I need thermal pads for cooling NVME drive with heatsinks

Yes, you need thermal pads, paste, or adhesive for any noticeable benefit.

I got a few small heatsinks to cool my MP500, question is do I need to put any thermal pads between the chips and the heatsink and is it completely necessary?

Spoiler
