Simply attaching a wire to the Chassis fan should not be giving you Chassis fan errors, as long as the fan is correctly plugged in. Are you sure the TACH cable is grey on your Haswell PC? I haven't dealt with that specific model, so things might be a little different, I don't know. Sending a few photos might help me better understand the situation.

Yeah I messed up - I  spliced a wire into the (OEM white) tach wire on the P2 plug instead of replacing it, so it was still connected on the ATX 24pin adapter side.

I cut the (OEM white) tach wire at the 24 ATX adapter, ran it to the grey PWM fan connector (as you described) and it works now.

2x Sata to 6 pin twice (if that is what your card needs).  I.E. You have 2 sata rails coming off the mobo due to the proprietary design.  One of the Sata rails use 2x of the sata power to the pinout you need, and if you have a 2 pin requirement the second 2x sata to pinout needs to come from the SECOND Sata rail (hope that makes sense) - this is all of course if your card you select needs 2x power plugs in it.

 

It has to be a single fan mini variant because you wont clear the stock heat sink. 

 

You also want to disconnect the ODD, and any extra HDD's/SSD's you aren't using as the i5 3470 + GTX 1060 and the rest of the power requirements will hit right near the max of that PSU, and while an ODD and HDD etc aren't much, you will be using up that PSU's limit quickly.

Tristerin is right but that only applies to HP 6300 MT owners. The HP 8300 CMT has enough room for any GPU, You're not really forced to buy a single fan GPU. https://youtu.be/fUbocXdrFfw?t=972.

You can upgrade your PSU and buy whatever GPU you want, but since you don't want to replace your 320W PSU, I would recommend buying something like a GTX 1660 or a GTX 1660Ti. Both outperform the GTX 1060 while consuming the same amount of power. I would buy a new PSU though if I were you, a 500W PSU can be found for around $40

I noticed the CMT but figured it was just the MicroTower :)

 

BTW - I no longer get Chassis Fan Errors and have zero fan headers connected on the mobo.  Not sure why.  For the first week after doing my closed loop on it, it gave the error at boot up.  No longer does it.  Didn't have to put any dummy fan headers on it.

Some months ago i modded my HP 6300 MT in order to upgrade the GPU. But I still hated to have a single fan (loud and hot) in 2019 so... I've found the right one: dual fan - right temperatures... the KFA2 1070 OC mini. It's a perfect fit with no mods needed on CPU cooler. A couple of pictures:

I know this thread is quite old but if someone can help me that would be great.

I have a HP Compaq Pro 6300MT, with a 320W stock PSU. I have been planning to upgrade the PSU, but have trouble finding this adapter that you are using. I am currently living in Germany, can you tell me where I can find it? The closest thing I found is this, however the images provided with this do not include the small circuit board that you have. Is that board really necessary, or can everything be achieved without it?

I was just confused a little and thought I'd ask here.

On a side note, can you tell me which of the two options should I go for if I want to 1080p gaming at med/high settings:

  • Stock 320W PSU and add a GTX 1050Ti or a GTX 1650.
  • Upgrade PSU to 500W and add a RX 570.

Looking forwards to your suggestions.

That adapter looks exactly like the one I've used, and you can see that it does have the small circuit board wrapped with a black plastic protective sheet. 

The 1050Ti is a very bad value and I would seriously avoid it. The 1650 is both more expensive and slower than the RX 570, but you don't need a new PSU for it.

There is also a third option. The 1660/1660 Super consumes around 120W at full load and has a total System power consumption of around 240W. So, you can buy a $4 dual SATA to 6 pin cable, and use the 1660 or 1660 Super with your 320W, as long as you don't overclock the GPU you would be fine. So, you're free to choose any of those 3 options. I would personally go with 3rd first if I can afford the 1660. The RX 570 route would be second, and the 1650 would be the last.

The RX570 pulls slightly more than 150W and the total system power consumption would be very close to 300W, and that would be pushing it a little bit. So, in your case, it is not recommended to use the dual SATA to 8 pin adapter with an RX 570.

Nvidia just released The GTX1650 Super. It's faster than the RX570, it's priced around $160, and it consumes around 100W. So, if you haven't bought a new PSU yet, buy the 1650 Super and a dual SATA to 6pin adapter. The card will pull 75W from the motherboard's PCIe slot and the rest(15W) from the adapter. The total system power consumption will be around 200W.

Here a review of the 1650 super.

Yes I have been looking into options for now. I researched into the RX 570 and it seems to be a viable option, but one thing that I am wondering is whether it will be able to fit into the case or not. HP specifies a maximum PCIe x16 card length of 167mm, whereas most RX 570 models are around 240mm, so I am wondering if it will be blocked by the CPU cooler. Can you give any insight into this?

As for the 1650 Super, yes it looks nice, but unfortunately I can't find it online anywhere for sale so I think its not out in Europe yet. I will wait around a month to see when it comes out and if its at a reasonable price or not.

Oh I forgot that most RX 570s are over 200mm in length so, you're right about the RX 570 not fitting in your case.

HP specifies a GPU length of 167mm, but anything around 182mm and under will fit. You can find GPUs length on Techpowerup GPU database. Hi guys, maybe stupid q...I have 6300 SFF with original 240w psu, i5 cpu with max consumption 77w. If I buy GTX 1650 which has consumption 75w and is powered only from pcie slot + ssd drive + 2x4gb ram...looks that my 240w psu can handle it right?

What do you think guys? I dont care now that GTX 1650 isnt low profile, I plan to run this comp without case - dyi solution with wood...

Coolermaster's psu calculator shows me 236 watts total...so it looks promissing

The GTX1650 videos that I see on youtube show a total system consumption of under 150W. So, you'll be fine.

I have an HP 8200 Elite Tower which I recently changed it's power supply.
The computer is working great, but when I turn on the computer, I get a 515 power supply fan not detected error.
I can press F1 to continue anyway, but it's really annoying.
I did some research but all the diagrams are a bit different from what I have.

Which wire should I connect to which?

Just like I said in my first post, the error will disappear on it's own, and it happened to another guy as well. I think there is a certain number of times that that error shows up then it goes away, or the error goes away when you clear the CMOS. Correction

 

For my problem should be cut the blue cable (24 pin)  and connect it to the green tac cable of your CPU cooler as below picture.

Hi!,

 

Im upgrading a 6300 SFF but i dont get the computer power up. The new PSU its a Mars MPII550 of 550W and the GPU its a MSI GeForce GTX 1050Ti.

   

Here are some photos of my cable:

- remove all 4 cables from that white p2 connector and compare the cables with the ones from your old PSU.

your old PSU will have 4 or 5 cables on that p2 connector ( grey, green, white, white with red stripes, and sometimes black) .

the adapter will have (yellow, green, red, black)

 

ok, then put the yellow cable back in where the grey one was and put the green one back in where the green one was and put the black one back in where the pure white one was. and put the red one exactly next to where you put the yellow one. 

 

ok now turn on your pc and that's it.

 

if you get an error on startup saying that the PSU fan is not detected, press F1 to ignore it and continue, but if you get tired of the error every time you start your pc and want to fix it, here is what to do.

 

remember the black cable you inserted where the pure white one was, that cable is a TAC cable, it sends the PSU fan speed readings to motherboard but since the new PSU's wiring is not the same as the old HP one, the motherboard has no clue. so, you'll need to cut that black cable from where the cable meets with the 24 pin connector thingy (just to get enough length of it) https://i.imgur.com/n3W9MG5.jpg and then you'll need to attach it to the green TAC cable of the CPU fan connector and this will trick the motherboard into thinking that the CPU fan it is sensing is the PSU fan and you won't get any errors. Good luck

Edit : The fan error stopped showing up after a few days or so without doing any modification (that fan error is probably set up to show up a certain number of times). 

 

Edit 2: Another option would be buying a dual SATA to 6 pin or 8 pin cable but it's not really recommended for anything above a GTX1060 cause these prebuilt PCs come with only 320W PSU, here's how it works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkmsLxnCfrQ

 

Edit 3:  Here's a diagram of how exactly my adapter is wired https://imgur.com/20grXCCFor those that have differently colored adapters, you can still follow this diagram but you gotta check where your wires are going exactly.

 

 

I managed to get an EVGA 750w G3 running in my HP Compaq Pro 6300 MT, i got a different adapter than the one in the picture but it still worked since it was for z220/z230. My red and green cables were different so its important to follow the instructions to the pictures and every detail of what they give you when rewireing the white connector. Another important thing to note is despite the fact that it is a fatter case you can only put short graphics cards in because it collides with the cpu cooler and you cant get a new one, planning on getting a Gigabyte 1070 mini or somthing to go with with the i7 3770 i put in it, something with 1 fan.

Had to mod case a bit too to fit in psu and theres a gap but thats fine.
