TN VS IPS

sAnr0

hey guys ,

so i was wondering if IPS worth the money

recently i've decided to get myself a brand new 1440P G-Sync monitor

but im having a hard time choosing one ...

so its fallen to 2 options

    1. Dell S2716DG  - A TN panel monitor QHD, G-Sync , 165hz   Price - 760$

        https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-27-gaming-monitor-s2716dg/apd/210-agjr/monitors-monitor-accessories

    2. Viewsonic XG2703-GS   -  An IPS panel monitor QHD, G-Sync , 165hz   Price - 960$

        https://www.viewsonic.com/us/xg2703-gs.html

My question is does the IPS panel worth those extra 200$ ???

thanks :D

If you're used to TN, there won't be a problem With getting a TN panel. If you go for an IPS panel, you can never go back to a TN panel again. TN are better than they used to, but in Picture quality still far behind IPS panels.

Sorry for the few off Capital letters in my posts, it does it on its own when I Write in English, since my OS is in another Language. It's annoying.

There was a comparison done on YouTube between an Asus RoG Swift PG278Q (non IPS) vs a RoG Swift PG279Q (IPS) both the same monitor pretty much, just one is TN 144hz the other is IPS 165hz

He couldn't tell much difference. I also have the PG278Q and IQ is better than my old IPS non Gsync monitor (that's not to say i mean it would better than a high quality IPS)

To be honest at this stage, I would wait for more HDR Gysnc monitors, HDR is definitely worth the extra

I have the Dell TN and its almost as good as an IPS. I can't tell the difference unless they are side by side.

I have a Dell S2716DG and it has a very good TN panel and honestly, I think the average gamer can live with it. That being said, it does not compete with IPS's color performance so don't expect that level of vibrancy and depth.

coming from an Asus ROG with a TN panel to my HP Spectre x360 with a IPS panel there is NO COMPARISON, the TN looks like crap and some are worse then others, like the TN panels use by MSI on there current 15" gaming laptops where they claim colors like an IPS panel in the advertising looks like hammered dog shit next to the shitty TN panel in my old Asus gaming laptop, like the one guy above said, once you make the switch you won't ever want to willingly go back, anyone that can't tell a difference between TN and IPS is either color blind or flat out blind.
